Saturday, Nov. 5 – MHSAA LP Division 2 State Cross Country Finals Huron Cross Country had three athletes make their first appearance at the MHSAA LP Division 2 State Finals in the windiest State Finals recorded with winds from the south at 25 mph and gusts up to 40. In the Division 2 Boys race, senior Ryan Morris finished in the top quarter of the field placing 52nd (16:46.4) out of 258 runners. Congratulations Ryan, Molly and Avery!

Sat. Oct. 29 – MHSAA Region 18-2 It was a run through the clouds at the MHSAA Region 18 race at Milan High School with near-school record-breaking times on both the boys' and girls' sides and many personal records. The Chiefs had three All-Regional runners that placed among the top 15, qualifying for the State Finals next Saturday, November 5th at MIS. Congratulations Ryan Morris, Molly Johnston, and Avery Turk!   In the Boys Varsity D2 race, Ryan Morris finished 12th (16:17.8 PR) in the region, just five seconds off the Huron school record, received a medal, and punched his ticket to the state finals. Abdul Ghennewa was next in for the Chiefs placing 23rd (16:47.9 PR) and was one place away from being an additional qualifier. Close behind was Griffin Mentzer in 27th (16:51.8 PR), Lucas Kuhn 33rd (17:11.0), Luke Dulecki, making a show on the top 20 5K board, with a 17:12.8 PR was 34th, Samuel Stanley 54th (18:10.8 PR), and Kyle Biller 65th (18:34.8). In one of the toughest regions in the state, Huron placed 4th overall, one position away from qualifying as a team for the finals. Sat. Oct. 22 – Airport Invitational@ Airport High School Huron Boys & Girls Cross Country took home trophies from their last regular season competition at the Airport Invitation on Saturday and earned a total of 17 medals.   In the boys, varsity race, the Chiefs claimed the Airport Invite Championship trophy with six runners medaling among the top 25: Ryan Morris 2nd (17:08.1), Griffin Mentzer 3rd (17:19.3), Abdul Ghennewa 4th (17:25.9), Lucas Kuhn 11th (18:06.9), Luke Dulecki 12th (18:08.8), and Samuel Stanley 25th (18:50.6). Kyle Biller, just one place away from a medal, placed 26th (19:00.8).   The JV Boys Team earned six medals in the top 10 with Caiden Siggett in 3rd (20:26.5), Evan Banas 4th (20:27.0), Jacob Welch 5th (20:32.8), Roman Whitmore 8th (21:31.7), Lucas Worrell 9th (21:43.0), and Hunter McMahan 10th (22:11.3)  The team occupied the next 4 places with Cole Druyor in 11th (22:20.6), followed by Noah Myshock 12th (22:22.4), Garrett Cheney 13th (22:23.4), and Ben Holbrook 14th (22:31.8). Thurs. Oct. 20 – Huron League Championship @ Willow Metropark Huron Cross Country took some time to honor our seniors and their parents at the Huron League Championship Meet. Senior yard signs were displayed coming into the third and final mile for some. Congratulations Class of 2022-23: Cara Bean, Griffin Mentzer, Ryan Morris, Breeann Roupe, Samuel Stanley, and Jacob Welch! Huron Boys XC brings home the Huron League Championship Trophy for the first time since 1976! The Chiefs had five runners claim All-League Honors. Ryan Morris placed 5th (16:51.4) and Griffin Mentzer 6th (16:55.9 PR) earned medals for 1st Team All-League. Abdul Ghennewa in 8th (17:15.5), Lucas Kuhn 9th (17:24.6), and Luke Dulecki 13th (17:39.0) medaled as 2nd Team All-League finishers. Kyler Biller 25th (18:26. 3) and Samuel Stanley 27th (18:30.5) round out Huron’s varsity crew. Oct. 15 – Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Invitational – Huron XC Pink Out Race Weekend The Huron Boys Varsity Cross Country team earned a trophy for placing 3rd in the Medium School Division at the Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Invitational. Ryan Morris finished in 12th (16:39.2) and Griffin Mentzer 23rd (17:04.7) both earning medals among the top 25. Abdul Ghennewa, missing a medal by one position, came in 26th (17:10.1) followed closely by Lucas Kuhn in 28th (17:12.3). Lucas Dulecki 47th (17:52.2 PR) and Kyle Biller 61st (18:16.9 PR) both had PR’s and Samuel Stanley finished 64th (18:39.2) out of 118 runners. Oct. 8 – Wayne County Championship @ Willow Metropark Huron Cross Country ran in a multi-division competition at the Wayne County Championship meet on Saturday with over 40 schools in attendance.   The Huron Boys Cross Country team earned a Runner-up trophy once divisions were separated for team awards. Ryan Morris in 29th earned a medal in the top 35 for the multi-divisional competition. Lucas Kuhn in 40th (16:56.3 PR) and Griffin Mentzer in 42nd (16:58.4 PR) set PR’s going sub 17 minutes for the first time in their career. Abdul Ghennewa placed 47th (17:07.3) out of 216 runners, Lucas Dulecki 94th (18:06.5), Samuel Stanley with a PR was 102nd (18:28.8), and Kyle Biller 116th (18:40.8).   In the largest race of the day, the JV Boys team had 9 runners’ PR. Oct. 5 – Huron League Jamboree #2 The Huron Boys Cross Country team once again placed on top at the second Huron League Jamboree, increasing the gap in the field to 34 points to their closest competitor. The Chiefs had their top five place among the top 14 with Ryan Morris in 5th (17:08.8), Griffin Mentzer 6th (17:19.2), Abdul Ghennewa 8th (17:35.8), Lucas Kuhn 9th (17:47.8), and Lucas Dulecki 11th (17:58.7). Samuel Stanley placing 24th (18:38.4) and Kyle Biller 28th (19:03.0) were among the top 30. Sat. Oct. 1 – Marauder Invitational Marauder Invitational gave Huron Boys Cross Country some unique opportunities. With varsity and JV switching off weekends it allowed runners the opportunity to gain a varsity race under their belt and the freshman to compete among others in their grade. The Chiefs had nearly all their runners show improvement on their Lake Erie course time and six set personal records for the day.   In the varsity race, Caiden Siggett was our top runner placing 39th (19:38.9 PR) out of 88 runners, Jacob Welch 55th (20:16.3 PR), Roman Whitmore 60th (21:00.4), Cole Druyor 65th (21:31.5 PR), Lucas Worrell 66th (21:38.5), Garrett Cheney 74th (22:22.6). (Adrian 60, Riverview 71, Flat Rock 91, Ann Arbor Greenhills 127, Trenton 136, Airport 149, Grosse Ile 154, Cabrini 172, Riverview GR 199, Huron 250, Garden City 250, Ida 310)   In the Freshman JV Boys race Broderick Yensch held our top spot placing 23rd (22:26.7 PR) followed by Ben Holbrook 26th (23:11.5 PR), Cameron Stewart 32nd (24:31.6), and Joel Lazenby 34th (26:35.3 PR).   In the JV race, Noah Myshock led for the Chiefs in 62nd (22:05.3) out of 106 runners, Hunter McMahan 73rd (22:41.2), Deegan Richardson 88th (24:16.3), Rocco Sells 89th (24:37.8), Nathan Zakar 90th (24:46.3), and Jack Fisher 106th (29:05.4). Huron Boys XC Run Away with Cadillac Invite Runner-up Trophy

Huron Cross Country hit the road traveling 3 hours up North to Cadillac for the team's first out-of-town competition. The beautiful single loop winding course proved to be fast with the team setting many personal records. The Huron Boys Cross Country team ran away with the Cadillac Runner-up trophy. The Chiefs had their top five medal along with their top seven setting personal records. Ryan Morris led the team with another top-five finish in 4th (16:37.6 PR). Abdul Ghennewa in 10th (17:02.0 PR) and Griffin Mentzer 11th (17:02.8 PR) kept it close once again with Lucas Kuhn right behind in 14th (17:13.5 PR). Kuhn joined his teammates on the Huron Top 20 5K board, and all earned medals for finishing in the top 40. Also, medaling was Lucas Dulecki in 36th (17:52.7 PR) running his first sub 18 minute. Kyle Biller 47th (18:21.5 PR) and Samuel Stanley 53rd (18:31.5 PR) broke sub 19. Evan Banas finished in 71st (20:00.0), Louie Macon 73rd (20:17.1), and Caiden Siggett 75th (20:36.1). The Huron Boys Cross Country Team came out on top at the first Huron League jamboree. The Chiefs came in first in what came down to a showdown with Jefferson, outscoring them by 5 points. Ryan Morris placing in the top 5, finished 4th overall (17:06.4). Huron’s next three runners, coming in as a pack finished 8th, 9th, and 10th: Griffin Mentzer 8th (17:37.2), Lucas Kuhn 9th (17:42.2 PR), Abdul Ghennewa 10th (17.42.7). Lucas Dulecki, just one place away from the top 14, finished in 15th (18:41.0 PR) with Samuel Stanley 23rd (19:07.7), and Kyle Biller 25th (19:09.0 PR) rounding out Huron’s top 7. Sat. Sept. 17 – Huron Invitational   And onto the Course We Go! Huron had a tremendous day out on the cross-country course smashing personal and seasonal records! As a whole, our program dropped a total of 33 minutes and 12 seconds from last week's race. The Boys Varsity team ran away with the Huron Invitational Championship with top 4 medaling. Ryan Morris, with his first sub 17, placed among the top 10 in 9th with a 16:45.6 PR. Griffin Mentzer running a 17:15.8 PR in 11th and Abdul Ghennewa with a 17:23.2 PR in 12th join Morris on the top 20 5K leaderboard for Huron High School. Lucas Kuhn was close behind medaling in 16th (17:44.7 PR). Samuel Stanley finished 41st (19:20.3 PR) out of 113 runners, Kyle Biller 48th (19:20.7 PR), Evan Banas 58th (19:54.6), Louie Macon 61st (20:05.0 PR), Jacob Welch 69th (20:36.7), Cole Druyor 97th (22:00.5). Fri. Sept. 9 – Warrior Classic Huron Boys Cross Country claims the Runner-up trophy at the Warrior Classic. The Chiefs were only five points behind division 1, Monroe HS. Our top five medaled with Ryan Morris in 8th (17:45), Griffin Mentzer 13th (18:10), Abdul Ghennewa 15th (18:14), Lucas Kuhn 17th (18:25 PR), and Lucas Dulecki 23rd (18:50 PR). Out of 112 runners Samuel Stanley placed 36th (19:54 PR), Kyle Biller 49th (20:10), Evan Banas 62nd (20:48), Jacob Welch 81st (21:56), and Caiden Siggett 98th (23:32). Tues. Sept. 6 – Erie-Mason “Frank Connolly” Relays­ - six-mile two-person relay with each runner alternating running a mile three times The Huron Boys Cross Country team finished 3rd overall at the Erie Mason Relays, just 6 points out of reach of the second-place trophy. Four of our relay teams earn medals placing among the top 40 teams lead by Griffin Mentzer & Ryan Morris 9th (31:54.3), Lucas Kuhn & Abdul Ghennewa 11th (32:46.4), Samuel Stanley & Luke Dulecki 21st (34:09.2), and Lucas Worrell & Kyle Biller 36th (36:53.0).
