Both teams were strong in the circle on Wednesday, but St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 1-0 victory over Huron Varsity Chiefs. Kuzara started the game for Huron Varsity Chiefs and recorded 18 outs.Huron Varsity Chiefs was right in it until St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrelsscored on an error in the sixth inning.Kuzara stepped in the circle first for Huron Varsity Chiefs. I am so proud of how the kids responded today. We came off a really poor performance vs Milan. Lack of efficiency in the line up, and poor defensive play. We cleaned some things up at practice, focused on simplifying the game, and executing routine plays. I think they came together and did the simple things much better today. Kuzara stepped up in the circle, I dont think she had one walk. That has been a huge piece of the pie. We cant afford giving up free bases. The defense came up strong behind her. A natural double play to end the 5th was a huge play by our middle infield. Russo behind the plate came up with a huge play to throw a girl out at third on a ball in the dirt. All around, we looked like we found our bearings. I am extremely happy with how they stepped up, today. It came down to the wire on Monday, as Huron Varsity Chiefs grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over Flat Rock Varsity Rams. The game was tied at three in the bottom

Weve talked about the mindset of hitting this season, better 2 strike approaches, along with less strikeouts. We felt last year we handcuffed ourselves, we had an extremely high number of strikeouts. Our goal was to cut those down. Today the kids had a great hitting approach. Very disciplined up to bat, a lot of 2 strike hits. We only had one strike out on the day. And chipped and played hard and scrappy offensively. Defensively we have to clean some things up. We won't be a high scoring out put team, so defensively we have to not just play clean, but steal some outs in the mix. And we didn't do that today. Although we came up short, a lot was learned. Airport had the upper hand defensively. We put balls in play all game but they made a lot of great plays and played clean. I though battled hard in the box, landing with only 4 strikeouts on the day, and ran into a couple crucial outs at home to end some possible rallies. But we are not that far off. And we hope to rebound off this and make our adjustments. Huron Freshman Volleyball – News Herald Invitational Tournament Recap This past weekend, our freshman volleyball team competed in the annual News Herald Invitational Tournament, marking the final event of our season. The girls came ready to play and showcased some of the best volleyball they’ve played all year. Despite a strong start, taking the first set 25-19, the momentum quickly shifted. The Chiefs dropped the next two sets 22-25 and 19-25, ultimately falling 1-2.It was a night where things just didn’t click—communication was off, energy was low, and unforced errors added up. Despite playing with a different lineup—and even trying a “fun” lineup where players took on new positions—the girls showed just how much they’ve grown as a team. Their communication, energy, and teamwork were outstanding, making this an enjoyable victory. Every player contributed to the win, reflecting the team’s depth and chemistry.
