JV AND VARSITY SOCCER (Divine Child edition)

JV Soccer hosted Divine Child at Arrowhead to a close 2-1 loss.  Freshman Ian Ankenbauer set the foundation in goal for a tough defensive presence.  Freshman Jordan Stasak alongside freshman Lucas Spradlin, freshman Shayne Diegel, freshman Holden Kropff and freshman Mason Jasinski, held the Falcons to limited opportunities and played strong connected defense to allow the team to fight for the whole 70 minutes.  Freshman Ian Petrick got the scoring off early as the Chiefs took a 1-0 lead and rode that for quite a bit until DC converted a PK.  Freshman Christian Summitt and freshman Michael Masiovecchio aided in the attack as outside midfielders freshman Gavin Umin and freshman Ryan Marvaso made strong runs to outwork their defenders.  Sophomore Roman Pritt controlled the middle of the field and was awarded 1 point for the assist on the goal and helped out fellow midfielder freshman Mason Thomas establish dominance in the center.  Sophomore Marcus Balazs, freshmen Ryan Biller and sophomore Jaden Choryan all worked hard to ensure the Chiefs stayed within striking distance all the way until the end when Stasak was brought up top to try to score the equalizer and almost converted, much to the delight of the stadium.

Varsity Soccer fought hard for the first forty giving themselves the 2-1 lead at half but fell short on the back stretch.  Andy Traster, who pushed the pace for most of the game, started the scoring off when he converted a hand ball in the box to a 1-0 Chief lead.  Plenty of opportunities were left wanting as the Chiefs broke the Falcons down repeatedly and could have put the game out of reach early on.  Huron’s backline was the big story of the day, with senior Captain Drew Slane riding the armpit sticks on the side of the field, the Chiefs were forced to run a backline that not only never played together but also had players in spots they were not used to playing.   Jack Maxwell and Ibrahim Muhammad held down the middle while Brady Fleszar and Tony Trupiano worked tiredlessly.  This backline was upto the task and fought hard the entire time. With Noah Manthei also out, the backline was forced to work for 80 minutes, fortunately freshman Jordan Stasak was eligible to play late in the game for some much needed relief. After Traster scored the PK, the Chiefs controlled the game and were deciding how they would score their next goal when DC struck from distance tying the game at 1-1.  Moments later, Sebastian Horvath took over the midfield and beat 3 players and decided to go bar down for the go ahead goal and the lead at halftime.  Sitting in a good spot entering the second half, no one could have forseen the petty, lucky, silly, unmerited, trivial, weak, troublesome, boring, uncalculated, unpredictable, bounces that saw the Chiefs lose their lead and eventually the game.  Despite the loss the Chiefs proved they have the style to compete and compete at the high level, extending that from 40 to 80 minutes is where their concentration will be focused on as injured players make it back and determined players like Luke Hamilton become more and more contagious passing on their enthusiasm.
