ADRIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 2
When most people think of fall they think donuts and cider and getting out and doing some yard work and raking up the leaves. I can tell you that when one Chief showed up to rake up the Maple leafs of Adrian last night he didn’t bring a rake, he brought a YARD VAC! Senior Jacob O’Neil went on a scoring spree, netting a hat trick, that he will be telling his great-great grand children with details as vivid as the day they happened. Sal Marchionda slipped the ball through to O’Neil for his first of the night. O’Neil then created something from nothing and went unassisted on his second giving the Chiefs a 2-0 lead halfway through the first. Completely controlling the pace, the Chiefs got a little relaxed and the Maple Leafs got on the board sending the game into halftime 2-1. Second half action was all Chiefs as Brendan Robbins slotted a pass to Ricky Emelian who lit up the goal for the game winner. Continuing their relentless attack and great defending led by Mackennon Dolencic, Brendan Pasut, and Ashton Messina, the Chiefs got the ball to Alex Davenport who assisted the greatest Hughes ever, Sam Hughes. Hughes, who was a step ahead of all of the competition all night, blew a hole through the back of the net as if he was taking down a strike on the bowling lane. Up 4-1 the Chiefs throttled back the engines accidentally giving up another goal....4-2 did not sit well with O’Neil when he decided to throttle the motors back up and gave Sophomore new comer, Chandler McCraight, his first ever point in the state tournament when McCraight assisted O’Neil’s 3rd. 5-2 final. Back at Maple Stadium Thursday night for District finals!
