ST. MARY CATHOLIC CENTRAL: 2
The Chiefs splashed into the Monroe area today to do some puddle jumping. Jacob O’Neal got the scoring started a minute and a half into the game off of an Adam Brenner assist. With the soccer ball skipping and splashing around the Chiefs lost the handle on it for a brief second and SMCC scored. Huron continued to maintain possession and control the game until SMCC stole the ball again and bent a beautiful side netting shot past diving keeper, Nick Pasut. Two shots two goals on two unfortunate turnovers was all that Huron was going to give up though. Chiefs were attacking and shooting consistently when Sal Marchionda gave the ball to Captain Ryan Toth who sliced through 3, maybe 4 players before putting the ball top shelf. Second half action was all Huron, who held the ball nearly the whole 40 minutes and allowed no shots on goal. Chiefs’ outside midfielders, Sam Hughes, and Remy Emelian outpaced the SMCC falcons to allow Brendan Robbins extra space to attack. The grill at the concession stand was not the only thing cooking as Vinnie Gonzalez made the game exciting with his back and forth play. Junior Robby Spradlin received a ball from Hughes and did some bending of his own, bending back side netting that is, for goal #3. After multiple keeper saves and attempts from Ricky Emelian, And Chad Sturgill, Toth added a second from Marchionda. With the 4-2 final, Nick Pasut was credited with the win and puts Huron at 10-1-1 on the season.
