A true game of cat and mouse was what the fans received for their price of admission.  Huron scored first when Sophomore Ricky Emelian beat a defender in the corner and assisted senior captain Vinnie Gonzalez.  The warriors then played catch up and scored bringing the game back tied.  Gonzalez then assisted  junior Salvatore Marchionda, a nationally ranked point scorer, with his aerial volley.  Huron up 2-1 we’re controlling the game and possession but the Warriors were not going away.  Just before halftime the Warriors tied the game again.  Huron was relaxed in the opening minutes of the second half when Woodhaven scored catching The Chiefs off guard. Huron then scored again by junior Robby Spradlin by way of senior Adam Brenner.  Then Woodhaven scored again with Huron answering immediately back by another Gonzalez pass to Marchionda. Tied 4-4 the game was extremely back and forth when Woodhaven scored their 5th and final goal.  The final ten minutes was all Huron trying desperately to tie the game when they were awarded an indirect free kick 6 yards from the goal and the fans were confused to see a sea of Warriors standing on their own goal line.  The penalty was missed and this left the Chiefs scrambling with time running down.  Huron then scored from another Brenner throw in bringing the game tied, but after a deliberation that left the Huron fans gasping, the referees overturned the goal.  Actually tied 5-5 but the scoreboard reading 5-4 the Chiefs were left scratching their heads until Senior captain Chad Sturgill, and arguably one of the top players in the region, took over. He won the ball from a Woodhaven attacker and then went on a dribbling spree that had him passing Warrior after Warrior. With time running down 26 seconds 25 seconds 24.23.22.21.20.19, every Chief fan looking through their fingers.  Was this the end? Did the unbeaten Chiefs loose? Did the #11 ranked Div1 Chiefs loose their luster and fall to the #17 ranked team? I don’t think I want to say, maybe you should have been there and spent the $5 to support our team. .........................................................................................................................................................................

Ok, who am I kidding?  18 seconds left Sturgill got ripped to the ground as he was striking the game tieing (actually winning in most eyes) goal. He was awarded a direct free kick with 18 seconds left on the clock and prepared to beat the “wall”.  Sturgill bent the ball around the wall and placed the ball upper corner sending teammates (and coach) doing backflips and cart-wheels all up and down the field.  Fans could be seen cheering and crying, waving Chief banners, and hugging.  The goal was so inspiring and emotional bringing everyone together.  Sisters and brothers were calling treuces,  cats and dogs were hugging, Democrats and Republicans were high-fiving, and old country and young country was once again reunited!  An amazing 5-5 final.
