The Varsity Chiefs finished their regular season play on a high note defeating the Trojans of Detroit Henry Ford by a score of 29-8. Quarterback Cash Moczydlowsky was 4 of 7 passing for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had 6 carries for 15 yards and a 2 point conversion. Austin O'Dell had 18 carries for 126 yards and one reception for 35 yards. Jacob Handyside had 2 receptions for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brennan Caldwell had 8 carries for 39 yards and 2 touchdowns. Drew Ladach had one reception for 8 yards. Landon Hall had 2 carries for 6 yards. Andrew Traster was 3-3 on PAT attempts. The Varsity Chiefs came away with a thrilling overtime victory defeating the Flat Rock Rams 20-19 and played spoiler on homecoming weekend in the War for the Oar. QB Micah Smith was 6 of 12 passing for 94 yards and a touchdown. He also had 23 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Anderson had 5 receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown and 2 carries for 5 yards. Brennan Caldwell had 4 carries for 11 yards and a touchdown. Austin O'Dell had 3 carries for 8 yards. Bradley Hughes had 3 carries for 16 yards. Dayton Miller had one reception for 14 yards. Defensively, the Chiefs were led by Brennan Caldwell (8 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 pass breakup), Drew Ladach (12 tackles), Micah Smith (7 tackles and 3 pass breakups), Dylan Hudkins (2 tackles, 1 pass breakup and 1 interception), Austin O'Dell (6 tackles), Earl Shepard (2 tackles and 1 sack), Ryan Anderson (7 tackles), Austin Holloway (4 tackles), and A.T. The Varsity Chiefs traveled to Grosse Ile this past Friday night and came away with a victory winning 21-7. QB Micah Smith was 9-19 passing for 114 yards and a touchdown. He also had 15 carries for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brennan Caldwell had 12 carries for 62 yards and 2 receptions for 14 yards. Ryan Anderson had 4 receptions for 72 yards and 2 carries for 9 yards. Brad Hughes had 2 receptions for 11 yards and a touchdown. Landon Hall had 8 carries for 27 yards. Austin O'Dell had 3 carries for 13 yards. Jacob Furkas had one reception for 17 yards. Andrew Traster was 3-3 on PAT attempts. The Chiefs had strong defensive efforts from Drew Ladach (10 tackles), Brennan Caldwell (10 tackles, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery), Ryan Anderson (5 tackles, 1 Interception and 1 pass breakup), Christian Fields (5 tackles), Austin Holloway (2 tackles and a forced fumble), Austin O'Dell (4 tackles), Cam Grant (3 tackles and a pass breakup), A.T. The Varsity Chiefs fell to the Airport Jets by a score of 48-8 on Friday evening. Micah Smith was 2-7 passing for 14 yards and had 9 carries for 62 yards and a 2 point conversion. Brennan Caldwell had 9 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown and one reception for 35 yards. Austin O'Dell had one completion for 35 yards and 5 carries for 20 yards. The Varsity Chiefs secured a road win on Friday night against the Monroe Jefferson Bears by a score of 49-26. QB Austin O'Dell was 2 of 6 for 36 yards throwing, and he rushed 11 times for 95 yards and 3 touchdowns. Brennan Caldwell had 14 carries for 200 yards, 2 touchdowns and a 2 point conversion. Ryan Anderson had one reception for 31 yards and 5 carries for 16 yards. Landon Hall had 3 carries for 17 yards and a touchdown. A.T. Taylor had 1 carry for 44 yards and a touchdown. Todd Sinclair had a reception and Blake McCarthy and Drew Ladach also contributed in the ground attack. Andrew Traster was 5/6 on PAT's. The Varsity Chiefs came out of the gates strong but ultimately lost to the Riverview Pirates by a score of 49-21. QB Micah Smith was 10/16 passing for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also provided 10 carries for 34 yards and a 2 point conversion. Austin O'Dell had 16 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Anderson had 8 receptions for 56 yards and 2 carries for 15 yards. Blake McCarthy had 1 reception for 33 yards and a touchdown. Jake Handyside had one reception for 19 yards and a touchdown. Andrew Traster was 1/2 on PAT attempts. The defense saw strong efforts from Ryan Anderson and Drew Ladach. Kyle Blankenship had a fumble recovery on a special teams play. Win: 20.00 - 17.00
The Varsity Chiefs earned their first win of the 2023 season in exciting fashion over the Milan Big Reds. It was a tale of 2 halves. The Chiefs were slow out of the gate, and they were behind 0-14 at halftime. The 2nd half was a different story as they dominated the line of scrimmage. They orchestrated a strong first drive which was capped off by a rushing touchdown by QB Micah Smith. Andrew Traster kicked the PAT to make the score 7-14. After a strong defensive stand, the Chiefs got the ball back and marched down the field again. The final play of this drive saw Austin O'Dell score on a rushing touchdown. Traster kicked another PAT making it 14-14. After another strong drive by Huron, they were stopped on 4th down and the game was forced into overtime. Milan had the first possession, and they were forced to settle for a field goal making the score 14-17. On the first play from scrimmage for the Chiefs, Micah Smith found the end zone on a strong run to give Huron a 20-17 victory. Micah Smith had 14 carries for 67 yards and 2 TD's. He was 3-3 passing for 41 yards. Austin O'Dell had 18 carries for 103 yards and a TD. Ryan Anderson also contributed in the run game. Anderson, Jacob Handyside and Jacob Furkas all had receptions. The defense was led by strong performances from Brennan Caldwell (14 tackles), Micah Smith (15 tackles), Ryan Anderson (6 tackles and an interception), Drew Ladach (11 tackles), Dylan Hudkins (7 tackles, 3 pass breakups), Cam Grant (11 tackles) and A.J. Floyd (5 tackles). The Varsity Chiefs (1-2 Overall; 1-1 Huron League) will look to build on their momentum when they face the Riverview Pirates on Friday, September 15 at 7pm. The game is at home. The Varsity Chiefs lost a close game to the SMCC Falcons week 2 by a score of 19-13. QB Micah Smith was 7/14 for 108 yards and a touchdown. He also had 11 carries for 57 yards and a rushing touchdown. Austin O'Dell, Brennan Caldwell, and Ryan Anderson also contributed in the rushing attack. Caldwell had 2 receptions for 34 yards, Anderson had 2 receptions for 18 yards, O'Dell had 2 receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown, and Todd Sinclair had one reception for 11 yards. The defense saw strong performances from Drew Ladach (13 tackles), Caldwell (12 tackles), Micah Smith (10 tackles), and Cam Grant (9 tackles). It was a rough start to the season for the Varsity Chiefs as they fell to Livonia Churchill by a score of 36-12. Quarterback Micah Smith had 14 carries for 60 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. He also completed 4 passes for 37 yards. Austin O'Dell, A.J. Floyd, Ryan Anderson and Bradley Hughes all contributed to the rushing attack. Austin O'Dell, Jacob Handyside and Todd Sinclair all recorded receptions. The defense saw strong efforts from Brennan Caldwell, A.J. Floyd, Micah Smith, Ryan Anderson, Drew Ladach, Christian Fields and Noah Herron. Fields and Herron each had a 1/2 QB sack, and Herron had a fumble recovery. The Varsity Chiefs (0-1 Overall; 0-0 Huron League) will look to turn things around next week against the Falcons of Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central.
