Saturday, Nov. 4 – MHSAA LP Division 2 State Cross Country Finals @ MIS
Huron Cross Country saw four of its athletes compete at the MHSAA LP Division 2 State Finals, benefiting from favorable weather conditions for this prestigious event at the Michigan International Speedway.
In the Division 2 Women’s race, Falyn Doss secured a position in the top quarter of the field placing 62nd, surpassing her school record with a time of 19:27.5, a 6-second improvement. Avery Turk, in her second state appearance, claimed the 127th spot (20:21.2) among 250 runners.
In the Division 2 Men’s Race, Luke Dulecki finished in the top half of the field placing 91st (16:39.5) and Abdul Ghennewa landed in the 129th spot (17:05.6) out of 252 runners.

Sat. Oct. 28 – MHSAA Region 18-2
Under perfect racing conditions on the Lake Erie course at the MHSAA Region 18 competition the Chiefs advanced four All-Regional runners to the State Finals next Saturday, November 4th at MIS. Congratulations: Falyn Doss, Avery Turk, Luke Dulecki, & Abdul Ghennewa!
In the Girls D2 Varsity race, Falyn Doss finishing at 9th, clocked in a 19:33.2 personal record brings down the 14-year-old Huron 5K school record. Alongside her, Avery Turk claimed 10th place (19:58.0), both receiving medals and All-Region honors, punching their ticket to MIS. Kayla Christesen was in next at 51st (22:43.4), followed by Cecilia Evans 62nd (23:31.1 PR), Kirsten Perecki 78th (25:05.2 SR), Savanna Rupnow 86th (26:45.5 PR), and Julia Welch 88th (27:08.6 PR). In the JV race, Macy Bauman finished 98th (30:44.4).

Sat. Oct. 21 – Airport Haunted Harvest Invitational@ Airport High School
Following a dispute surrounding the course distance at the Airport Haunted Harvest Invitational, the organizers have taken measures to address the issue. After a remeasurement, it was determined that the course falls short of the initially claimed 5K distance and will now be officially recognized as a 3-mile.
Falyn Doss was the Airport Invitational Runner-up, finishing in second place overall (19:11.6), and Kayla Christesen in the 13th spot (21:23.4^) both earned medals among the top 25. Savanna Rupnow finished in 54th (25:41.7^), Julia Welch 59th (26:08.6^), and Macy Bauman 68th (30:16.6) out of 74 runners.

Thurs. Oct. 19 – Huron League Championships @ Willow Metropark
Huron Cross Country took some time to honor our seniors and their parents at the Huron League Championship Meet. Senior yard signs were displayed on the course coming in by the three-mile post. Congratulations Class of 2023-24: Drew Blosser, Natalie Carlile, Garrett Cheney, Abdul Ghennewa, Noah Myshock, Rocco Sells, Hunter Szawara, Roman Whitmore!
Despite experiencing similar conditions to this past Saturdays meet with rain and mud, Huron Girls XC had two runners place in the top 7 claiming 1st Team All-League honors with Avery Turk placing 3rd overall (19:43.9) and Falyn Doss, with her first sub 20 minute, at 4th (19:52.1 PR) both earning medals. Kayla Christesen finished in 24th (22:38.9), Julia Welch 48th (27:32.4), Natalie Carlile 49th (29:12.6), and Savanna Rupnow 50th (29:46.3). Overall as a team the Chiefs finished fifth in the Huron League.

Sat. Oct. 14 – Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Invitational
The Huron Girls Varsity Team dropped significant time at the AA Gabriel Richard Invite on a wet and muddy course. The Chiefs had four runners set new personal-best and one season-best time. Avery Turk placing 12th (19:48.7) and Falyn Doss 18th (20:07.3 PR) medaled in the top 25. Kayla Christesen finished 57th (22:18.8 PR) out of 149 runners, Cecilia Evans 95th (23:57.0 PR), Kirsten Perecki 118th (25:38.5 SR), Julia Welch 134th (27:19.8 PR), Natalie Carlile 140th (28:50.8). Savanna Rupnow and Macy Bauman made their return to competition this week in the JV race, finished 88th (28:18.9) and 120th (31:13.3) respectively.

Sat. Oct. 7 – Wayne County Championship @ Willow Metropark
Huron Cross Country ran in a multi-division competition at the Wayne County Championship meet on Saturday with over 35 schools in attendance.
The Huron Girls Cross Country team earned a Runner-up plaque once divisions were separated for team awards. Avery Turk in 21st (20:28.0) and Falyn Doss 26th earned a medal in the top 35 for the multi-divisional individual competition. Doss’ time of 20:33.3 PR placed her among Huron’s top 10 fastest 5K times in the 9th spot. Kayla Christesen was the Chiefs’ third runner in at 76th with her first sub 23 (22:33.2 PR). Cecilia Evans placed 107th (24:34.2), Kirsten Perecki 127th (26:16.3), and Julia Welch 142nd (29:26.0) out of 150 runners. In the JV race, Natalile Carlile placed 131st (28:52.1) out of 179 runners and Amelia Szawara 156th (33:17.2).

Huron Girls Cross Country had two runners place among the top 14 at the second Huron League Jamboree with Avery Turk in 3rd (20:35.3) and Falyn Doss 8th (21:36.1) toughening it out in the last burst of summer temperatures along the Erie shoreline. Kayla Christesen placed 26th (24:14.5) out of 54 runners, Cecilia Evans 34th (25:54.8), Kirsten Perecki 42nd (27:30.8), Julia Welch 54th (34:16.5). Sat. Sept. 24 – Cadillac Invitational
Huron Cross Country made the trip up North to Cadillac once again this year for an overnight out-of-town competition. The weather was much improved from last year’s bitter cold conditions with sun and temperatures in the 60s during race times.
Huron Girls Cross Country brought home two medals with two PR’s. Avery Turk, running her first sub 20 of the season (19:42.1 PR), finished 9th overall, not only earning a medal but a top 10 t-shirt as well. Falyn Doss placed 19th with a PR of 20:37.0 moved from 18th to 11th on our All Time 5K leaderboard and earned a medal among the top 30. Kayla Christesen came in at 61st (23:08.6), Cecilia Evans 81st (24:42.4), Kirsten Perecki 89th (27:04.5), Savanna Rupnow 91st (28:24.4), Amelia Szawara 92nd (28:46.0), Julia Welch 93rd (28:53.4), Macy Bauman 94th (28:55.7).

Tues. Sept. 19 – Huron League Jamboree #1
The Huron Girls Cross Country Team had two finish among the top seven at the First Huron League Jamboree with Avery Turk in 4th (20:19.6) and Falyn Doss, with her first sub 21, in 7th (20:52.9 PR) both putting out strong surges in the last half of the race to secure top spots. Kayla Christesen finished 24th (23:15.9) out of 58 runners, Cecilia Evans 32nd (24:18.3 PR), Kirsten Perecki 42nd (26:36.5), Amelia Szawara 51st (28:46.6), Natalie Carlile 52nd (28:49.3), Julia Welch 54th (29:51.7), Macy Bauman 57th 30:35.9). Overall the Chiefs placed 5th as a team.

Huron Girls XC Make History Winning Their First Huron Invite Title

Sat. Sept. 16 – Huron Invitational
Huron XC made school history at the 54th Annual Huron Invitational. The girls' team took home their first Huron Invite Championship title and along with the boys winning their division it was the first time both teams shared the honor in the same year. Way to go Chiefs!!
The Huron Girls Cross Country team won the title with their top 5 medaling among the top 35. Avery Turk led the team finishing 4th overall (20:29.2), followed by Falyn Doss in 7th with a PR time of 21:06.7 which lands her on the Huron Top 20 5K board in 19th, Kayla Christesen placed 18th (23:01.5 PR), and Cecilia Evans 35th (24:25.4), all earning medals. Kirsten Perecki came in at 63rd (26:53.5), Savanna Rupnow 71st (27:45.3), Julia Welch 76th (28:24.5 PR), Macy Bauman (29:46.1 PR), Amelia Szawara 80th (30:58.2).

Tues. Sept. 5 – Erie-Mason “Frank Connolly” Relays - six-mile two-person relay with each runner alternating running a mile three times
Huron Girls Cross Country’s top duo was Kayla Christesen & Falyn Doss earning a medal placing 12th overall (43:06.0) in the Division 1 competition at the Erie Mason Relays. Kirsten Perecki & Cecilia Evans came in 4 places away from a medal finishing in 44th (53:01), Julia Welch & Natalie Carlile 52nd (1:01:05), Macy Bauman & Amelia Szawara 54th (1:02:39). Savanna Rupnow completed 2 miles of the relay in a total time of 18:54.

Fri. Aug. 18 - Lamplighter Invite
Huron Cross Country kicked off the race season under the lights at the Lamplighter Invitational on Friday, August 18th. Both teams coming in with a significantly faster start than our previous season.
The Huron Girls team finished 18th overall. Avery Turk placed 9th (20:44.3) earning a medal for placing in the top 20. Falyn Doss was five places away from a medal finishing 25th with a PR (21:39.3 PR) and out of 204 runners, Kayla Christesen finished 134th (25:42.7), Savanna Rupnow 162nd (27:05.4), Natalie Carlile 185th (29:30.6), Julia Welch 187th (29:39.2), Amelia Szawara 189th (29:57.9), Macy Bauman 197th (31:50.1 PR).
