The Varsity Chiefs hosted the Milan Big Reds Week 2, and they won in an exciting fashion by a score of 13-12. Huron got on the board first when Gavin Moczydlowsky connected with Ethan Woolery for 18 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Gill kicked the PAT to make the score 7-0. Milan struck back in the 2nd half scoring a touchdown, but the PAT attempt was blocked by Ashton Warren which became a very significant play in the contest. Milan scored another touchdown and attempted a 2 point conversion, but a strong effort by the Huron defense stymied their attempt. The Chiefs had the ball with around 9 minutes left in the game, but were forced to punt, yet their spirits never waivered. After 2 stuffed run attempts, Milan tried to pass the ball on 3rd down, but it was picked off by Marco Tylutki who returned it to give Huron a very short field with roughly 4 minutes left in the game. The offense dug deep and imposed their will on the Milan defense. Great blocking from the offensive line and fullback helped Gavin Moczydlowsky rush his way to the game winning touchdown with around 2 minutes left in regulation. After a failed 2 point conversion, the Chiefs led 13-12. The defense held strong with tremendous pressure and great coverage. Micah Smith intercepted a pass as time was expiring to cap off the comeback win. Ryan Anderson (1 interception), Joshua Buettner, Wyatt Marentette, Rory Callahan and Sammy Farrugia helped contribute to the aforementioned names with a great defensive performance. Gavin Moczydlowsky had 4 completions for 136 yards and a touchdown. Ethan Woolery had 2 receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. Rory Callahan had a 40 yard reception, and Ryan Anderson had a 45 yard reception. Moczydlowsky led the team in rushing with 98 yards and a touchdown. Micah Smith, Ryan Anderson and Xavier Elliott also provided help in the run game. The Chiefs (1-1 Overall; 1-0 Huron League) will look to keep their momentum during Week 3 against the Riverview Pirates. The game is on Friday, September 9 at Riverview High School at 7pm. Go Chiefs!
