MHSAA D2 State Finals @ Hamilton High School - Sat. June 1, 2024
Huron’s Track had three athletes compete in four events at the MHSAA D2 State Finals on a rainy Saturday, June 1st, at Hamilton High School. Dylan Hudkins participated in both hurdles events, finishing 16th in the state in the 110M hurdles and 15th in the 300M hurdles. Despite recovering from a hamstring injury, Lucas Kuhn placed 25th in the 1600M run. Representing our women’s team, Avery Turk secured 19th in the 300M hurdles. Huron Track’s freshman class showcased their talents at the Downriver 9th Grade Invitational, competing against other 9th graders and excelling across multiple events. They claimed the title of 9th Grade Champions in four events and were runners-up in another four.
Cameron Crane claimed the top spot in two events, becoming the 9th Grade Champion in the 1600M run and the pole vault, where he set a personal record with a vault of 12’6”, an impressive 15” improvement. Crane also secured the runner-up position in the 4×400M relay alongside teammates Jamil Brown, Matthew Hussey, and Marton Krajcz. Hussey also claimed the runner-up spot in the 1600M run.
Marton Krajcz won the title of Invite Champion in the 400M run and placed 6th in the 100M dash. Jamil Brown was the runner-up in the 100M dash with a personal record of 11.99 seconds and finished third in the 200M dash. Brown’s 4×100M relay team, including Landon Huggins, Austin Shastal, and Jimmy Harrison, took third place, with Huggins also placing 6th in the 100M dash.
Cayden Kilby stood out in the jumps, becoming the 9th Grade Champion in the high jump and finishing 4th in the long jump. Kilby was part of the Coed 4×400M relay team that finished as meet runners-up, along with Kyle Siggett, Macy Bauman, and Savanna Rupnow, with Siggett placing third in the 1600M run making it a complete sweep for the Chiefs in that event.
Austin Krause medaled in both hurdles events, securing 4th place in the 110M hurdles and 5th place in the 300M hurdles.
In addition to the coed 4×400M relay, the women’s team achieved medals in four other events, three with third-place overall finishes. Savanna Rupnow placed third in the 400M dash with Julia Welch claiming 6th place. Welch also jumped to third in the high jump. Brooklyn Ladach finished 3rd in the shot put with a personal record throw of 69’11”, with Cecilia Evans medaling in 6th for the 1600M run.

League Meet @ Grosse Ile HS 5/21/24
The Huron Track teams competed in the scorching heat at Grosse Ile High School on Tuesday, May 21st in the Huron League Meet. For the Huron women's team, Natalie Carlile secured the top league spot and a 1st Team All-League medal in the pole vault and Avery Turk earned 2nd Team All-League honors in the 300M hurdles. Ending the season on a high note with a person record and scoring points for the Chiefs was Olivia Pryor in the 100M dash (13.30), the 4x100M relay with Olivia Pryor, Jordan Hickey, Natalie Carlile, and Lily Bermudez, and the ladies in throws: Angel Sly in the discus (80’4”) and MacKenzie Whitehill in the shot put (30’7”). Whitehill also made her track debut, running for the first time with the 4x400M relay team.

Region 16-2 @ Chelsea HS 5/17/24
The Huron Track Teams experienced a roller coaster of emotions as they qualified for the State Finals in four events while narrowly missing the mark in six others, coming in just short on qualifying times and placements.
Avery Turk of the Huron Women’s Track team secured her spot in the State Finals, clinching the regional runner-up title in the 300M hurdles with a personal record time of 48.69. Meanwhile, Natalie Carlile's impressive third-place finish in the pole vault narrowly missed the top-two qualification. The team also celebrated outstanding performances from Olivia Pryor, who set a new personal record in the 100M dash with a time of 13.31, and MacKenzie Whitehill, achieving a personal record throw of 30’0” in the shot put. Brielle Musallam made strides in the long jump finals, securing 7th place with a jump of 14’6.75”. Additionally, the 4x200M relay team exceeded expectations, sneaking into medal contention from the second heat and earning the 8th spot with a personal record time of 1:54.23, led by Lily Bermudez, Brielle Musallam, Avery Turk, and Savanna Rupnow.

Metro Classic 5/11/24
Huron Women’s Track wrapped up the Metro Classic just a point behind Riverview, securing twelfth place. Avery Turk emerged as the top scorer, claiming 4th place in the 300M hurdles and contributing to the 6th place finish in the 4x200M relay alongside Savanna Rupnow, Brielle Musallam, and Lily Bermudez. Olivia Pryor showcased her speed, finishing 4th in the 100M dash and contributing to the 7th place finish in the 4x100M relay with Jordan Hickey, Natalie Carlile, and Lily Bermudez. Additional medals were earned with Falyn Doss securing 4th place in the 3200M run and MacKenzie Whitehill claiming 7th place in shot put, while Natalie Carlile achieved 8th place in pole vault.

Once more, the Huron Women’s Track team faced closely contested match-ups this season, with the competition intensifying until the final event. They narrowly missed victory against Grosse Ile, with a score of 60 to 68, and Riverview, with a close margin of 59.5 to 67.5. The Chiefs faced a tough defeat against SMCC with a score of 50 to 78. Natalie Carlile soared to new heights, surpassing her school record in the pole vault with an impressive clearance of 8’0”, ultimately securing first place overall in the event. The Chiefs' 4x200M relay team consisting of Lily Bermudez, Brielle Musallam, Avery Turk, and Savanna Rupnow emerged victorious, clinching first place against all competing teams.

Ram Relays 5/3/24
Huron Women's Track predominantly focused on sprint relays and field events at the Ram Relays, while missing several athletes due to a concurrent soccer match. The Chiefs put up a strong performance, particularly in the throwing events, with Whitehill and Sly securing second place in the shot put. Whitehill, improving by half a foot, combined with Slovik’s PR in the discus achieved third place. In the high jump, Musallam and Catrib claimed third place. The team also earned medals in both sprint relays, finishing second in the 4x100M (featuring Pryor, Hickey, Carlile, and Bermudez) and the 4x200M (with Hickey, Catrib, Musallam, and Bermudez). Being down in numbers left the Chiefs with an opportunity to send Falyn Doss to the Stockbridge Invitational to participate in their 3200M run where she medaled in third.

Huron Women’s Track claimed victory in six events against Flat Rock. The team triumphed in both the 4x100M relay, featuring Pryor, Hickey, Carlile, and Bermudez, and the 4x400M relay, led by Musallam, Rupnow, Doss, and Turk. Brielle Musallam was the teams top scorer, securing first place in the high jump, long jump, and contributing to the 4x400, as well as clinching second in the 400M dash. Falyn Doss also place first in the 1600M and second in the 800M with Avery Turk taking first in the 300M hurdles. Final score Huron 57 – Flat Rock 71.

Marauder Invitational – Battle of the Leagues (HL vs DRL)
The inaugural Battle of the Leagues competitions, hosted by Marauder Invitational, pitted the Huron League against the Downriver League in a showdown to determine the ultimate victor.
The Huron Women’s Track team battled it out in the middle of the pack, ultimately finishing 7th overall. Natalie Carlile emerged as the top performer, clinching first place in the pole vault and earning the prestigious title of Marauder Invite Champion. She also contributed to the team's 6th place finish in the 4x100M relay alongside Pryor, Hickey, and Bermudez. Falyn Doss continued her winning streak, securing another championship title this week with a first-place finish in the 3200M run. Avery Turk showcased her talent with a runner-up finish in the 300M hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the 4x200M relay, teaming up with Bermudez, Musallam, and Rupnow. Olivia Pryor impressed with a fifth-place finish in the 100M dash. MacKenzie Whitehill made her mark in the discus, finishing 7th, and in the shot put, securing 8th place.

Huron's matchup against Jefferson saw brighter skies after a one-day delay caused by inclement weather.
Huron Women’s Track made an impact in 12 out of the 16 events in their competition against Jefferson. Savannah Rupnow emerged as their top scorer, clinching first in the 200M, second in the 400M, and third in the 100M. Olivia Pryor made significant contributions, securing first place in the 100M and anchoring the 4x100M relay team (alongside Hickey, Carlile, and Bermudez). Falyn Doss achieved two second-place finishes for the 1600M and 800M. Final score Huron 39 – Jefferson 88.

Warrior Classic 4/20/24
The Warrior Classic at Woodhaven High School presented a tough day for athletes due to high winds and low temperatures, significantly impacting field events and sprint performances.
The Huron Women’s Track team secured the 11th position out of 20 teams. Falyn Doss emerged as the top scorer, claiming 10 points with her first-place finish in the 3200M run, clocking a personal record time of 11:59.56, earning her the title of Warrior Classic Champion. Natalie Carlile contributed eight points, securing second place in the pole vault. Additionally, Avery Turk claimed a medal for the Chiefs with a fifth-place finish in the 300M hurdles, while Olivia Pryor secured sixth place in the 100M dash.

Huron vs Airport 4/16/24
Huron Women's Track faced formidable competition in a closely contested match against Airport. The decisive moment arrived during the final event of the evening, with the Chiefs securing victory by winning the 4x400M relay (Musallam, Rupnow, Doss, Turk). The top scorer for the Chiefs was Brielle Musallam, taking first place in the long jump and the 4x400M, second in the 400M, and third in the high jump. Other standout athletes included Lily Bermudez, who claimed first in the 200M, second in the 100M, and secured first in the 4x100M (Pryor, Hickey, Carlile, Bermudez). The team had a remarkable day in the throws, sweeping the discus event with Whitehill, Slovik, and Sly. MacKenzie Whitehill was their top scorer, earning eight points, with her first (discus) and second (shot put) place finishes. Final score Huron 65 – Airport 63.

Huron Track traveled to Milan for our debut competition of the season, encountering unusually warm temperatures that soared to record highs.
Huron Women’s Track secured first place in 7 events. Falyn Doss stood out as top scorer, claiming first in both the 1600M and 3200M runs. Brielle Musallam contributed with a first in the 4x400M (Musallam, Evans, Rupnow, Turk), second in the 400M, and third in both the high jump and long jump. Final score Huron 36 – Milan 81
