It was another multiple hit day for a trio of Lady Chiefs as we took down Grosse Ile 9-1 in the second matchup with them on the season.
Kuzara and Robbins had two hits on the day and Jackson had a three hit performance. The three of them combined for 5 of the 9 RBI's on the day. Jackson got the ball rolling with a bunt in the third inning- and on two outs Kuzara hit a shot to center field scoring her, to tie the game at one a piece. Add in a couple more base hits and some misfires by the Red Devils and you have a 4 run rally in the third. That was all that was needed to start the momentum and finish out the game. Greggo had 7 strike outs on the day and gave up only two hits.
Newman and Ramsby each added a hit to add to the totals.
We'll take on Jefferson and a solid pitcher for a double header at their place on Thursday.

Greggo threw a shut out game today, pitching one of her best games of the year. To add, the Chiefs added multiple hits to gain an 11-0 lead entering the sixth inning. Jackson and Ryan, led the way with three hits on the day. Kuzara and Robbins added 2 hits, and Greggo, Sic, Newman, and Pender all added a hit. It was a good day for us, with only 4 strikeouts on our end, putting balls in play more times than not. Kuzara had 3 RBI's, Robbins 2 RBI's, and Newman, Pender, and Ryan added an RBI.
Coming off a loss to Airport, in a big game, it was nice to see them in attack mode. They came out ready to go and Greggo on the mound threw well. It seemed we were super consistent on both ends. Thats a big win for us. We needed to bounce back today both offensively and defensively. They came out focused and got the win. That is easily a trap game for them but they responded with a big 11-0 win.
A late rally in the sixth inning gave Huron a boost but it wasn't enough to over come the 3 run deficit. We fell behind early, going down 3-0. The sixth inning though we put a couple key at bats together, gained some momentum, and scored three runs with one out. We had runners in scoring position but couldn't chip in another run after that.
It was an all around decently played game. Hit the ball hard but couldn't find holes. They played geat defense on us and made some big plays. I was happy to make it a game though, our energy didn't match theirs early enough, and it made it hard to fight out of that hole. But proud of the kids for fighting back and I think this one carries some weight as we move into the last two weeks of the season. Creates a little bit a chip that we need and gives us some things to rally around.
Rylie Greggo threw a shut out game today, as the Lady Chiefs run-ruled the Kestrels in 6 innings. Her defense behind her played lights out as they came up with a couple big plays to strand runners, along with throwing out a couple with the Kestrels trying to reach for extra bases. Greggo had three strikeouts but her and Sic did a great job keeping the batters on their toes all game. They couldn't find their rythm or gain much traction against her today.
Kuzara lead the way at the plate with 3 RBI and two home runs. She has been working on staying patient in the box and today she showcased her patience probably the best I have witnessed to this point. Ava Ryan was 2-2 with two big RBI's and Ramsby and Sic each added an RBI in. We do a really job of getting the bat on the ball. And today was no different. Sometimes power comes up in big moments, and Kuzara def set the tone with a two run home run in the first inning. But Im really proud of the work the kids have put in to this point. This is by far one of the most disciplined teams I have coached, and even on two strikes, they become hard outs. That is really all you can ask- be a hard out- as often as you can. It makes our lineup very hard to pitch to from top to bottom.
Its a big win, it keeps us in the race and gives us good momentum heading into a big game Monday with a very very good Jets team.
Jackson 1-4

Marissa Jackson was the hot bat of the night, reaching four times with four doubles (and 2 RBI's) as she set the tone early with a lead off double in the first inning. Emma Sic with less hits but as many RBI's including an over the fence home run, were key parts to big rallies of the game. Leading the Lady Chiefs past Flat Rock in the under the lights annual game.
Jackson has been hot, although if you ask her, she always wants more. Its her discipline that puts her at the top of the lineup and her ability to hit with power and consistency that is the spark that we need from our lead off hitter. Kuzara had two hits of her own and an RBI and hit the ball hard all night. Newman, Robbins, and Greggo all contributed in hte batters box adding a hit each. Ava Ryan may have shown hitless but. came up with two balls she put in play hard on two strikes that drove in some key runs. Pender the same, driving in a run with two strikes on her. I think that is one of the things we are best at- the ability to be hitters no matter the count. Along with some great offense production, our defense is really starting to click. Id argue we have the best outfield in the state with the three outfielders we have in Kuzara, Jackson, and Ryan- their range and speed steals hits and their arm strength holds runners to less total bases. Add in Greggo and Sic are really starting to find their groove as the pitching catching duo that they are- I like we are headed. I like our energy and the dynamics we present each day. We enjoy fighting for each other. Its always fun to win, but its more fun when the wins come with energy like tonight.
What a day! What a day!
Sparks flew earlier in the day, literally, leading to an energized and electric performance for our Lady Chiefs as they knocked off the undfeated Milan Big Reds in a stunning victory 12-2. Coming into the game I think we felt good. We felt we gave them the game at their place with some bone head moves. It was a forced game play round 1 but with the pat two weeks behind us, our chemistry feels anything but that. We have been putting up big numbers against decent plus pitching since we last saw them, and playing higher caliber teams. So even with a just above .500 record, I feel we are playing really good softball overall. And right on time as we headed into such a big game and the last half of our season.
We started off great shutting down their first set of at bats, Rylie was hitting spots and Sic called a great start against top hitters, keeping them off balance and providing some routing balls in play that we easily fielded. The bottom half of the first we started to roll. Kuzara reached on a ball 4 walk, and Sic delivered a shot through a gap, scoring Kuzara from 1st. Newman stepped up behind her delivering a two strike double, and Robbins exectued a nice bunt single to score Sic. Robbins took second base on a Greggo at bat, and Pender on two strikes had one of her biggest at bats of her high school career delivering a two strike single, scoring Newman and Robbins. Before we knew it we were up 4-0 in the first and sparks just kept flying from there. We got another 1,2,3 second inning out of Milan and put up another 2 runs in the second, making it 6-0 after two innings. Kuzara, who was charged up from her daily events, and was "amped up" ended up hitting a nuke to left field for a solo home run, for an electrifying lead 7-0. (Go grease lightning, go greae lightning). But it was the bottom of the fourth, where the real shock waves were felt, when Ava Ryan with bases loaded came up and hit a grand slam giving us yhe extra Volt of energy to close the door and finish with a 12-2 mercy!
It was a power-driven performance that started at about 10am where we were introduced to the profound impact of ENERGY!!! The team's energy was felt the entire game and it makes for one great memory for multiple reasons. So proud of these kids today....one for the books that well smile at for quite some time.
Lady Chiefs headed to Grosse Ile on this cold and windy day. Looking for a win they started off the inning with 3 runs early. Jackson singled and scored on the following at bat when Kuzara drove her in. Kuzara worked her way to third base where Sic drove her in. And from there Robbins scored Sic. Greggo had a perfect game going through the fourth where she gave up a walk. But only allowed one run to score on the day. She struck out three and threw well. Keeping hitters off balance all game long. Defense played an errorless game as well which was really nice to see.
Chiefs added 1 in the third inning and four more in the 5th, coasting to an 8-1 win.

It was quite the day from the offensive standpoint for the Lady Chiefs today. Not only did we wrack up 17 hits on the day but we had 4 home runs in there. Three had by Emma Sic who was 3-5 on the day, with 5 RBI's. Erin Newman started us off with a home run, giving us a 4 run lead in the 2nd inning. Hitting a 2 run shot of her own. Riverview did cut the lead in half in the third, with two runs making it a 4-2 game. But we bounced back with 3 more of our own in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. It was just a constant and consistent pressure from us on offense, with ball in play time after time. It was really nice to see us keep such pressure on Riverview and fight back multiple times to erase their momentum. Greggo had 8 striekouts on the day and Pender came in and stalled momentum out for one inning. Collectively everyone contributed to some degree, which is ultimately what we love to see out of this group.

Going theme seems to be tight games for us to start this season off. Which isn't bad to be battle tested early. And unlike the last couple games this one we took the early lead. Going up 1-0 with Kuzara scoring off Sic RBI in the top of the first. Top of the 2nd inning with two strikes, Newman hit a three run home run over center field. Scoring Pender and Ramsby. We had a good lead there coming into the 5th, being up 4-0 but the bottom of the 5th we had given them a little momentum back and they chipped away, clawing back and plating four runs to match us. But being in tight situations seems to be our comfort zone and chipping away late has been what we have done up to this point. We were able to come back in the top of the 7th and get two runs back. Greggo hit a double to score Kuzara and Robbins came up clutch with a sac fly to center field scoring Sartin. SMCC had a solid 7th inning of their own yet again matching us and coming up to tie the game. We headed into the 8th inning where neither team scored. The 9th inning we went into international tie breaker. Sic was moved over by a sac bunt by Greggo and then scored on a squeeze home by Robbins. Giving us the lead. Again SMCC matched us with a run of their own. it wasnt until the 10th that we pulled out the final run and closed the deal. Top 10, Scott moved the runner Pender to third and Newman came up and hit a seed to 2B. Pender made an absolute beautiful dive home to beat the tag giving us the go ahead run and ultimately the win.
Not sure we have fully found our bearings quite yet, but I see a ton of fight and a ton of scrap in our lineup and we don't go away easily. Which is a huge part of the recipe for being and staying competitve on the year. When we figure out our defensive lineup and clean some things up, I like our chances in almost any big game.

Seems to be the going trend, a 5th inning rally! Unfortunately this comeback was stalled out and left us a run shy of a comeback against a very good Airport Jets team. Defensively we gave them some un earned runs and didn't make a couple routine plays, but we left a lot of runners on early in the game as well. And when you only have 9 outs to get 6 runs, its quite the task. We had a big 5th inning with Emma Sic delivering a big double to plate two runs. With two outs, Addi Ramsby stepped up and on a two strike pitch hit a two run shot to bring the score 7-5.
Late in the seventh, Greggo hit a shot to right center that scored kuzara and we were with in one, but a play at second ended the game.
Happy the kids fought back and we continue to be comfortable with the process. Although we aren't playing exactly to the degree we would like we know that we are working toward the goals we have in place and timing is everything.
For anyone in the stands, you can hear my relief and my joy when i say "what a game"! Truly, rarely do you get to come out on the winning side of a game like that, but in all fairness when ya have zero strikeouts on a day, you would expect a higher scoring game.
The game started off a little more sketchy than we had hoped, with Flat Rock scoring 2 in the second and 2 in the third. Kuzara in the fourth inning hit a shot to left field that got to the fence which gave her an inside the park home run. Any momentum we had was quickly taken away with them scoring three runs right after that. Heading into the fifth and the score 7-1, I was told to fix the scoreboard. It was a dark cloud over us (as it read and couldn't be fixed (visitors 61 and Huron 31). So with some tinkering and a little added help to the antenna it popped on in the bottom half of the fifth inning. The huddle chat was quite simple btw the fifth inning...."we have had no strikeouts, balls are in play, realistically we can't end this game with out a rally at some point." I'd love to say, the Ted Talk was the reason for what ensued but truly the kids were intentional with their barrel and got through some balls. Finally leading to some base hits, which lead to a small rally, which in turn lead to five runs in the fifth inning and down by one going into the 6th. The 6th inning we gave up two runs which hurt a tad but our momentum and confidence were riding high. The 6th inning we put up 6 runs and walked away with a 12-9 lead. We were able to seal the deal and escape with what could be a season changing win over a home town rivalry in Flat Rock.
It's hard to say we outplayed them, or they outplayed us, because when ya look at it, the hits were 10 for them 11 for us. But momentum surely was in their favor most of the game. A big focus for us though, is balls in play. And today, that was the case- to go through a varsity game not striking out is something to be proud of. Thankfully balls found holes as we went and it just bounced our way. They didn't make an error on the day, they were making plays defensively, the ball just found holes as the game went. Huge praise goes to Sasha Pender who came in a slowed momentum down against some of their bigger hitters. Greggo was able to come back in the seventh and close the deal- but to watch them praise each other and support each other through adversity and moments of greatness speaks volumes. Proud of the kids for keeping a pulse, they stuck together when it. counted.

Coming in you hope to keep games like this close and that was surely the case. Despite giving up a 2-0 lead early, our kids really fought hard down to the final inning. We were able to string two hits together to get one run back in the fourth. Jackson singled on a liner to right and was moved to second on an error and Kuzara hit a shot to center that scored her. In the 6th, Jackson lead off the inning with a walk followed by Kuzara reaching on an error. Greggo with two strikes hit a shot to RF scoring Jackson which tied the game up. Unfortunately a couple errant plays really stalled our rally out. And thats an inning we look back on and really learn from. Kids fought though, down to the end. A solo home run in the 6th from Milan put them up 3-2 and we couldnt squeeze another run out in the seventh. But all things aside, with the amount of mistakes and lack of execution through small ball, we still were right there. Its promising and it gives good fuel as we head into our next game.
Sic and Greggo lead the way offensively with 3 hits a piece. Greggo with 2 RBI and Sic with 1. Kuzara went 2 for 5 with three RBI on the day. Ramsby and Robbins both added two hits to the day as well. Collectively we had 15 hits on the day and a very limited number of strikeouts. Nice to see the kids putting the ball in play more this week than the last. We grabbed an early lead in the first half of the inning to fall behind in the bottom half of the first inning. That could have been very deflating- but they chipped away. Evened the score and even got up to a four run lead. Both teams had some big hits, extra base hits at that. Offensively its a good matchup and fun to watch. You have pure hitters on both sides so you never really can get comfortable. Defensively we had some miscues that well clean up as we go. But for the first game out I think we have good momentum to work off of and move forward with.
