Girls Varsity Volleyball vs. Airport District Semi Final

The New Boston Huron Chiefs dropped the Airport Jets in the District Semi Final 0-3 Set 1: 19-25 Set 2: 22-25 Set 3: 16-25

Our girls came out and fought hard in all 3 sets. We started off a little bit slow, and had some communication errors early on that cost us some points. We also had a difficult time in what is usually one of our strongest areas, serve receive. Without being able to get balls to target we were eliminating a lot of hitting options, and this limited us on our abilities to run the quick offense that we knew we needed to run in order to throw off Airports blockers. When we did have good passes we were able to run a fast offense and score points. Our blockers did a very nice job adjusting to the quick offense that Airport runs. We were able to get a lot of block touches to help slow the ball down allowing our defense to re run balls and create some really great volleys. Our defense played very scrappy and we had a lot of really great pick ups because of that. At the end of the day our girls fought hard and never gave up. Some calls didn't go our way and they battled to not let that affect the game that they were there to play. All in all I am very proud of them for the season that they had. Although we wished we were playing in the District final tonight against Flat Rock  I am super proud of the girls and how they came together to play this season. Congratulations to our 6 seniors on all of their accomplishments in the Huron Volleyball Program, and goodluck to you all in whatever you choose to do in the future. As for the 6 juniors you did a great job this season, there is a really great core group of players who will continue to be a big part of Huron Volleyball in the future.

Win: 3.00 - 0.00

The Huron Chiefs defeated the Grosse Ile Red Devils in the first round of districts at Flat Rock High School. The Chiefs  swept the Red Devils 3-0 Set 1: 25-20, Set 2: 25-13, Set 3: 25-19. We started off the night a bit slow, and made quite a few serving errors right out of the gate. The girls did a really good job of cleaning up their play and coming back to beat GI in 3 sets. The girls did a nice job on serve receive and were able to run a quick offense to throw Grosse Ile's blocking off. Grosse Ile came out very scrappy, a lot of balls we attacked on offense I thought would for sure score us points and they picked them up, and re ran them. This forced us to also be very scrappy on defense, the girls rose to the occasion and played very good defense. They communiacated well and played very well when having to go out of system.

Highlights:

Simone Cicotte: 10 kills

Ellen Town: 9 digs, 8 kills

Addison Beddow: 8 kills

Ava Ryan: 17 assists, 8 digs, 5 kills

New Boston Huron traveled to Gibralter Carlson for their pink out. Winning the match 3-0 Set 1:25-20, Set 2 25-13, and Set 3: 25-19

Our girls came out for the first set pretty flat. We ended up falling behind by quite a few points out of the gate, making some silly mental mistakes. However, the girls pushed through, cleaned up the mistakes and came back to win the set. The girls started to communicate well on defense allowing us to get more block touches and be in better position on defense to pick up balls. Our serves were great all 3 sets limiting serving errors to 4 total for all 3 sets and having 8 aces total in the 3 sets.

Highlights:

Olivia Moreno: 3 aces, 6 kills

Simone Cicotte: 7 blocks

Win: 3.00 - 0.00

Huron won the last of their Huron League reboot games against Riverview (3-0) Set 1: 25-18 Set 2: 25-20 Set 3: 25-18. Our girls did a very nice job of communicating on defense. Riverview was very scrappy this time around and they were able to dig up and rerun some really well hit balls. With that being said our girls did a nice job of communicating on defense along with making adjustments along the way. We had a great day at the net with 30 total kills and limiting our hitting errors to 9 total. Our defense played well and was able to pick up a lot of well hit balls from Riverview. We were also able to pass free balls to target well allowing our setters to run a quicker offense in order to score a lot of points.

Highlights:

Simone Cicotte: 2 aces, 9 kills

Ellen Town: 11 kills, 6 digs

Addison Beddow: 6 kills

Ava Ryan: 17 assists, 10 digs

Win: 3.00 - 0.00

Huron High School Hosted John Glenn High School for a pink out fundraiser benefit winning 3-0 Set 1: 25-14 Set 2: 25-11 Set 3: 25-11

Huron came out slow to start in the first set falling behind 1-7. They came back from that deficit and took the game in 3 sets. The girls really started communicating well, and overlapping on defense well. There were a lot of free balls passed over by John Glenn and our hitters did a very nice job transitioning off of the net to pass so that our 2 defensive specialists in the back could split the court. This allowed our setters the ability to break early so that they could run an effective offense. Our hitters did a nice job making adjustments and worked smart not always using a full swing to score points. Our high ace percentage really helped us keep rallies going and this was a team highlight on the night.

Highlights:

Simone Cicotte 7 aces, 6 kills, 3 blocks

Ellen Town 8 kills, 5 digs, 4 blocks

Aubrey Perhase 9 digs

Ava Ryan 15 assists, 4 digs

Win: 3.00 - 0.00

Huron defeated Jefferson 3-0 Set 1: 25-16 Set 2: 25-13 Set 3: 25-12 We has a really great day on offense and defense. We were able to limit our errors and in return we were able to put up 3 big wins. Our setters ran a fast paced offense keeping the Jefferson blockers guessing. Our hitters did a really nice job of transitioning off of the net to play defense, especially on the free ball. This allowed our d.s's to stay deep to prevent the deep ball from dropping. By picking up these balls we were able to run an effective offense allowing us to score often. Defensivley the girls did a very nice job communicating allowing us to play scrappy and pick up a lot of very difficult digs and re run those balls.

Highlights:

Simone Cicotte: 6 kills 4 blocks 8 digs

Ellen Town: 15 kills 7 digs

After 5 sets the Airport Jets defeated the Huron Chiefs (2-3) Set1: 25-23 Set 2: 25-22 Set 3: 18-25 Set 4: 22-25 Set 5: 6-15

Our girls played very hard and won the first 2 sets. We had a good day on both offense and defense and were able to score a lot of points. We played very scrappy defense and had some really great recoveries out of both the net and passes that weren't to target. The girls fought hard for the win and never gave up. Through their exhaustion they did what they could to try and pull out a win.  We will need to continue to work on limiting errors, especially when serving.  We were able to run a pretty successful offense but our defensive block touches and block coverage both on offense and defense kept us in the game.

The Huron Chiefs defeated Ann Arbor Huron 3-0 Set 1: 25-22 Set 2: 25-16 Set 3: 25-14

Our girls were a force to be reckoned with both offensively and defensively. They worked together as a team to take big swings and score points. They made adjustments each volley which allowed them to play clean defense. Their communication was a very important part of this win. Our scrappy defense allowed us to pick up some very difficult balls and we were able to rerun them to score points.
