The Chiefs won their division on Saturday with 3 undefeated games.  Captain Sam Hughes drilled a brilliant goal from a pass from Captain Jacob O’Neil.  Captain Brendan Robbins, who was leading point scorer with 6 points on the day, assisted Jacob O’Neil for the 2-2 early morning tie against Flushing High School.  After the night in the hotel, the giant banquet style dinner,  the long drive up, and one game behind them, the Chiefs swiftly moved from field 20 to field 22.  Minutes later the Chiefs were back in action defending the lower “P” from the Marquette powerhouse.  Brendan Robbins had 2 goals, 1 solo and 1 assisted to Junior Brendan Pasut.  Just before the final whistle blew, Marquette cut Huron’s lead to 2-1, and so stood the score.  Game 3 was against the home turf defending and tournament hosting Saginaw Heritage.  One problem presented itself for Saginaw though, Senior Captain Salvatore Marchionda.  SAT’s were over for the day and Sal, driving straight from testing, took one step onto the field and scored from a Robbins Pass.  Sal scored again from Senior Matisse Dornier-Duff giving the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.  Marchionda also struck the cross bar from a direct free kick before retiring to the center back position.  Junior Captain Ricky Emelian along with his buddy, Alex Davenport, toyed with the other teams midfields while Senior Nick Clark II set fire to the fields all day with his exciting speed and tenaciousness.  Junior Cody Brenner was credited with the Saginaw shutout. Both Brenner and Braden Damiani shared the goalkeeping duties on the day and were responsible for multiple saves in tough situations. Both keepers agreed though, without the strength and speed of Senior Mackennon Dolencic and Sophomore Owen Barnes, things could have been a bit more challenging.  Outside wing backs, Travis Russell and Ashton Messina gave the game necessary attacking from out of the back that was reminiscent of the great “German” teams from the late 70’s and 80’s (everyone remember?).  Late additions, Sophomore Chandler McCraight and Tyler Toth rocked the tournament.  McCraight stepped in and kept the midfield operating seamlessly almost as if he had trained with the Varsity squad for months.  Freshmen Toth was one of the calmest forwards on the pitch and appeared more mature than his age suggested.  In all, the writer of this article was impressed with this squad, their parents, and the family that calls themselves the New Boston Huron Boys Varsity Soccer Team over this entire weekend. Thank you for the mini vacay and let’s get back at it Tomorrow night at home 4:00.
