Chiefs Clench District Final Birth After Dominating Carlson
1 year ago
| Matt Lividini
Win: 2.00 - 1.00
Carlson played strong and fast but the calm tactical Chiefs stayed detailed to the end. Keeper, Asa Varner had one of his best nights in goal only allowing the incorrect PK to get past him. His shot stopping capabilities and ability to read the game is one of his biggest strengths. Asa's defense, Jack Maxwell, Mason Jasinski and Landon Julio shut everything down not allowing Carlson to ever score during Run of Play. Luke Hamilton and Tony Trupiano both had shots on goal and defended to ensure the Chiefs the win. Ayden Shannon and his understudy, Matthew Hussey both worked the midfield and showed true composure and skill. Sophomore Mason Thomas carved up the middle and showed some serious grit to help lift the Chiefs after they fell behind because the "incorrect PK". Second half action had the Chiefs faster, stronger and way more technical than their foe. Landon Julio lit up the goal from a direct free kick about 40 yards out that sent shock waves through Allen Park and into parts of Lincoln Park. His celebratory backflip signaled the Chief troops to go on full out attack mode and they never let up. Aidan Dolencic, a man playing amongst high schoolers took over the middle and nearly had another game winning goal a minute after Julio back flipped. When Andrew Traster and Ian Petrick took over, the visiting Marauders lost all hope. Traster to Petrick for the game winning goal and his 39th of the year. Then the two of them along with Dolencic literally stood on the ball to kill the clock and make for a humorous ending that included wrestling and pushing.

#2 Huron Advances Past Allen Park
| Matt Lividini
Win: 3.00 - 2.00
Allen Park came to play. Full speed and with determination, the Jags were not going to allow their season to come to end without a battle against the highly favored Chiefs. Scoring first, the Jags started believing they could off the home Chiefs. Within minutes the Chiefs came out of cruising speed and throttled the motors up to tie the game when Andy Traster found Ian Petrick. Unfortunately for the Chiefs they would return to a cruising speed for the remainder of the 1st half and go down another goal before halftime. 2nd half action saw the Chiefs out possessing and outshooting the Jags but unable to score the equalizer. After defending off the advancing Chiefs for 25 minutes, the Jags began to crack and Tony Trupiano found Petrick for his 38th goal of the season followed a minute later by Landon Julio finding Aidan Dolencic for the game winning goal. Landon Julio stepped into the center back and dominated everything while helping out new comer sophomore Shayne Diegel, who showed help was welcomed but maybe not necessary, when he was able to outplay the Allen Park forward. Freshmen Matthew Hussey also played a majority of the time and had 2 near misses during the barrage of Chief's shots. Asa Varner recorded another win in goal for his career and once again impressed with his ability to stop shots and receive the ball high out of the air. Another huge helper was junior Jayden Choryan who had to step into the midfield and help Dolencic control distribution.
The Chiefs advance to the semi finals on 10/18 at 7:00 against Gibraltar Carlson.

Aidan Dolencic, Ayden Shannon, Mason Thomas, Landon Julio, Tony Trupiano, and Mason Jasinski all controlled the game and kept the ball in the offensive half. Shayne Diegel and Marton Krajcz both played valuable minutes and Ian Ankenbauer saw his first varsity minutes of his high school career. Carson Downey got cleared to play today and had a shift to see how he would feel after being on Injury reserve for the whole season and most of the summer.

Senior Night was amazing! Some of the best seniors in the country attend this school and more importantly play for this soccer team. Andrew Traster! Asa Varner! Tony Trupiano! Luke Hamilton! Jack Maxwell! Sebastian Horvath! Carson Downey! Ayden Shannon!
This group spear headed this battle between #13 and #14 in the state and the top 2 seeds in the District Tournament. What a game, what a battle! Aidan Dolencic was at another level again tonight but it was contagious. Luke Hamilton absolutely everywhere, Mason Thomas, let's talk Mason Thomas. When Mason Thomas is tuned in and aggressive, then things are going to go well for the Chiefs. Tony Trupiano and Ayden Shannon, WOW, just WOW! Andy Traster and Ian Petrick 4 goals and 3 assists combined, "forget about it"! Asa Varner, with his massive 7' wing span, looked at times as if he was catching the ball above the moon! Now for the guys in the back, Mason Jasinski, Landon Julio and Jack Maxwell. These guys have been taxed as of late and are put under a microscope for their play nightly. Tonight this backline performed and gave the amazing fans something to celebrate.
Ian Petrick claims goal scoring record. After publishing that Ian had set the new record with 28 goals, the author of this article was emailed a correction. In 2011 the team was 16-2-5 with Joey Newberry netting 32 goals. Ian Petrick came into tonight with 31 and walked out with 33! New record again. He is not only "the assistant to the regional manager" He is the "assistant regional Manager!!! (THE OFFICE)
Amazing Fans! just check the photo. These kids are the best, all of them, wether they play football, soccer, volleyball, softball, band, doesn't matter, Soccer supports you all and thanks you for your support!

Lose: 3.00 - 11.00
As of October 1st the Huron Chiefs are ranked 14th in the State. This current group holds the best record 11-5-0 of any Huron Soccer team and is still fighting for their piece of the District Title. For anyone that has been following this high scoring team, they would be aware that this has not come without its ups and downs. Constant injuries and nearly every game has a different personnel but this group is still sitting in 2nd in the Huron League and moving forward. Even with the lopsided loss to Milan (11-3) and a different 10 guys at practice everyday, everyone that is healthy is trying their best to carry The load. During the Milan game Mason Jasinski scored again with his head from the corner by Aidan Dolencic. Ian Petrick assisted Jayden Choryan and Andy Traster scored from a 25 yard direct free kick. This is the last week of scheduled soccer before the State Tournament begins!!

Aidan Dolencic was everywhere again tonight continually trying to generate optimism.

Win: 8.00 - 1.00
27 goals was the magical # in a season, held by Sal Marchionda "2020". Marchionda set that during the fall of his junior year 2018. Both Ian Petrick and Andy Traster have been chasing that record; however, Petrick got there 1st. Petrick scored 3 on Saturday passing the record by 2 and now sits at 29 with at least 5 games to still be played. Traster added 2 and is knocking on the door. Sophomores Mason Jasinski and Mason Thomas each added a goal as well as senior Tony Trupiano. Asa Varner recorded his 11th win of the season while Roman Prit added 3 assists, Petrick 2 assists, Traster 1 assist. Aidan Dolencic, who controlled everything defensively and offensively also added an assist. Success like dominating a "state ranked" team doesn't come without hard defensive work which was given by senior captains Luke Hamilton, Jack Maxwell and junior Landon Julio.
Ian Petrick 3 goals 2 assists
Andy Traster 2 goals 1 assist
Roman Prit 3 assists
Tony Trupiano 1 goal
Mason Jasinski 1 goal
Mason Thomas 1 goal
Aidan Dolencic 1assist
Varsity Soccer Wins Big At Airport

Win: 8.00 - 1.00
What is slower than molasses in winter? High school soccer played on that old, green, long, thick stuff called.....wait what's it called, oh yes, grass. Huron never trains on grass anymore because of the state of the art turf at Arrowhead and it showed today. Simple tasks of passing the ball have to be completely reevaluated for weight when not on turf. Bouncing balls are different, shots are different and lets not even talk about dribbling in thr blades. Regardless, the 2nd place Chiefs got the job done 8-1 and despite it being a lot of work the players were in high spirits on the long ride home.. Andy Traster had a hat trick and 3 assists for 9 points and leading goal scorer, Ian Petrick added another 4 goals tonight. Ian's 3rd goal may be on Michigan Sports for highlight goal of the week. Tony Trupiano, who had 2 assists, assisted Petrick on the beautiful goal. Trupiano rounded players on the outside and delivered a back post ball that Petrick attacked with his head. Net in the air! Aidan Dolencic added one goal for all of his defensive and offensive work in the middle. Asa Varner secured another win between the pipes while Roman Pritt, Mason Thomas and Johann Vasquez each added an assist.
Andy Traster 3 goals 3 assists
Ian Petrick 4 goals
Aidan Dolencic 1 goal
Tony Trupiano 2 assists
Roman Pritt 1 assist
Mason Thomas 1 assist
Johann Vasquez 1 assist
Chief's Soccer Hands Undefeated Big Reds Their First Loss
1 year ago
| Matt Lividini
Win: 3.00 - 2.00
The story wasn't really that the Chiefs beat the Big Reds, the story was more about the Chief's injuries. Let"s start there. So 19 rostered to varsity, Sophomore Jordan Stasak, out. Junior captain Noah Manthei, out. Senior Sebastian Horvath, out. Senior Carson Downey, out. Senior Ayden Shannon, out. Senior Tony Trupiano, out. Senior captain Luke Hamilton, out. Now we're at 12, 11 starters and only 1 sub. Freshmen Matthew Hussey, Marton Krajcz and sophomore Shayne Diegel also lent their support from the jv side with Hussey playing in the action. Senior captain Jack Maxwell, junior Landon Julio, junior Aidan Dolencic, and sophomores Mason Jasinski and Johann Vasquez rocked the defensive side of action for 80 minutes essentially controlling the whole rhythm of the game. Let's not forget senior Asa Varner who recorded his 8th win of the season and had some really nice saves. Junior Yusuf Alziadi had his best game of the season and complimented fellow junior Roman Pritt and sophomore Mason Thomas who both stepped up and were big threats for the whole 80 minutes. Senior captain Andy Traster started the scoring when Vasquez found him over the top for a 1 time volley back netting, (if you missed it, you shouldve been there). Petrick made a few close attempts that were either saved or near misses before he got the 1st of two for him. The 1st coming from the PK spot. Up 2-1 at halftime, the Chiefs were getting tired but were ready for the next 40. Alziadi assisted Petrick on a powerful near post run to send the Chiefs up 3-1. Then Alziadi got hurt then Dolencic got hurt but the Chiefs kept pushing the pace and got needed relief from junior Jordan Choryan, who almost scored from a bicycle! Soon Dolencic made it back into the game and the Chiefs controlled the game until the end winning 3-2 despite giving up a charity goal with a couple ticks left on the clock.
Andy Traster 1 goal
Ian Petrick 2 goals
Johann Vasquez 1 assist
Yusuf Alziadi 1 assist
Chiefs Steal A Win Out Of The Falcon's Nest
1 year ago
| Matt Lividini
Win: 7.00 - 0.00
Everyone knows you don't touch a Falcon's nest but these Chiefs either didn't get the memo or disregarded the memo. They boldly walked straight into the nest and pounded out 7 goals. 7 goals, that was nothing, the Monroe SMCC goaslkeeper is amazing, if not for him the Chiefs would have tallied 13 and huffed it back to New Boston much much sooner. Sophomore Mason Thomas started the scoring off from a pass from Ian Petrick. Andy Traster scored from the pk spot followed by Petrick from the spot after being ripped to the ground in the area. Junior Yusuf Alziadi scored goal #4 from Petrick just before Petrick scored another this time from Traster. Mason Thomas added his 2nd of the night from Jack Maxwell and Sophomore Johann Vasquez scored from Luke Hamilton. Tony Trupiano, Luke Hamilton, Jack Maxwell, Landon Julio and Mason Jasinski all played clean classy defense. Asa Varner recorded another shutout and has established himself as the Chief's goto keeper.
Ian Petrick 2 goals 2 assists
Andy Traster 1 goal 1 assist
Mason Thomas 2 goals
Yusuf Alziadi 1 goal
Johann Vasquez 1 goal

Soccer Vs Jefferson Plus Asa's Birthday and Mosquitos
1 year ago
| Matt Lividini
Win: 13.00 - 0.00
Chiefs and Bears play a friendly at Arrowhead but decided to call it quits early due to mosquitos. Just under half way through the 1st half the chiefs were up 8-0 with many unselfish plays by Andy Traster, Ian Petrick, Aidan Dolencic, Ayden Shannon and Johann Vasquez. It wasn't until Landon Julio, who was utilized everywhere tonight, swallowed a bug, that things began to change. Bugs and mosquitos wouldn't stop biting. The Chiefs weren't trying to outrun the Bears they were trying to outrun the mosquitos. Mason Thomas outran the bugs and scored then Jack Maxwell scored, then Tony Trupiano, then Luke Hamilton, then Asa Varner. Asa Varner recorded his 5th shutout and a goal on this night, his birthday night. Happy Birthday Asa! Rapper Yusuf Alziadi had the last goal. Mason Jasinski and Jayden Choryan each held down the center back positions to aid in the efforts. Sebastian Horvath, Carson Downey, Noah Manthei and Jordan Stasak all had great jokes and witty comments and hoped Roman Pritt would be back and ready for Monday. The halftime buzzer rang and the Chiefs ran for cover to escape the swarms.

SOCCER SOCCER SOCCER SOCCER SOCCER SOCCER SOCCER
Once upon a time in a village called Boston, the new one, 19 studs came together and formed an amazing tribe. They began kicking a ball to each other and passing it between posts. They got good at this and decided to start taking on other local tribes. One tribe from Flat Rock called the Rams, tried to oppose these 19 from Boston, deemed the "Chiefs" and it didn't go so well for them. These Chiefs were everywhere and tallied 8 balls through posts or "goals" as they have come to be called. A Chief named Ian Petrick scored 3 "goals", another Yusuf Alziadi had 1, Landon Julio had 1, and Johann Vasquez had yet 1 more. Sophomore Chief, Mason Thomas, who scored his 1st varsity goal two nights before scored again from fellow Chief Ayden Shannon. Junior Chief Jayden Choryan, who also scored his 1st varsity goal two days prior, scored again this time from Aidan Dolencic. The post guy or the one who stands between the posts, became known as the "goalie". Huron's "goalie"senior Asa Varner has been doing an outstanding job, recorded another shut out and almost scored his 1st varsity goal. Others on the tribe that make it so successful are senior captains, who play in the back line, Luke Hamilton and Jack Maxwell. Senior Tony Trupiano and sophomore Mason Jasinski use their skills and speed to make the back line exciting while junior Roman Pritt controls the middle. At the end of the day, this tribe is learning to have fun kicking the ball through posts and challenging other tribes. They will forever be known as the tribe of 2023.

Boys Varsity Soccer At Grosse Ile

| Matt Lividini
Win: 5.00 - 3.00
Huron visited Grosse Ile, started fast and built momentum. Aidan Dolencic and Roman Pritt defended and attacked the middle of the field to get the momentum rolling in favor of Huron. Luke Hamilton, Tony Trupiano, Jack Maxwell and Mason Jasinski shut down the back and helped Asa Varner secure another win in goal. Half time had the game still tied at 0, but the chiefs continued to wear down the home team. Finally, at the 1 hour mark, Huron scored when Ian Petrick dribbled up the middle and got the ball to senior, Ayden Shannon, who tucked the ball away far post. Minutes later, Petrick stole the ball and was ready to score when the last defender drug him to the ground, creating Petrick's penalty goal. Minutes later, Petrick got the ball back post to Johan Vasquez who one-touched the ball over the line for goal #3. Senior, Andy Traster found sophomore Mason Thomas back post for goal #4. Up 4-0, Yusuf Alziadi almost scored multiple times. Grosse Ile was not done though, and scored a goal, then a PK, then another goal. Traster scored again from a direct free kick sending the game into halftime 2-1 (Lincoln caught Huron in the opening minutes). Second half action had Vasquez assist sophomore Ian Petrick just before Lincoln converted a PK. Up 3-2, Johann Vasquez had a 40 yard crack that sailed upper corner. Traster assisted Petrick for goal 5 but not before Senior captain Luke Hamilton smashed the crossbar from 20 yards out.
