Win: 20 - 4
Lady Chiefs came in to this game ready to go. The biggest focus of this evening was teamwork and distributing the ball better. The level of selflessness these girls displayed tonight was outstanding. It was the first time this year we had more than 4 kids score through the game. A total of 8 kids were able to put the ball in the basket. Ava Bossick lead the way with 6. Paige B, Maria, Maya, and Julia all added a basket of their own. Chelsie, Brooke, and Chloe all recorded their first baskets of their middle school career this evening. It was a solid win 20-4 as the entire squad played great team defense. So proud of their commitment to one another on the court and working together with the same goals.

Lady Chiefs Go From Lopsided Loss to Big Win Over the Red Devils

Win: 19 - 11
Game one of the season looked much different for us. A 33-9 loss to the Red Devils gave us a glimpse of what preparation was needed to compete around the league. We were down two of our point guards game one and had them back for game two. The kids were pretty determined all week to come back and play Grosse Ile better and showcase their progress up to this point, and that they did. We added a full court pressure D the week prior and felt like we were ready to run it this game. The second half came and we added it in and it really turned the game around. We went into half down 11-7, and we knew we could get turnovers if we pressured enough. The kids executed it beautifully. We scored twelve points in the second half, 8 in the fourth quarter putting the game in the books. Addison McFadden had her best game of the year with a season high 9 points. She was all over the court offensively and defensively and really set the tone for the game. Maria Robbins and Ava Russo were right behind her on the defensive side of the ball. Creating multiple turnovers and steals that lead to transition baskets. Paige Biette and Julia Welch dropped in 2 points, Robbins added 3 herself, and Ava Russo added 3 points to the mix as well. It was an all around team effort. This was a win we wanted and they went out and worked for it. So proud of the kids today.
Flat Rock Takes Big Win over Lady Chiefs

Win: 30 - 9
We knew going in this game would be hard. Flat Rock has all around the most talent from top to bottom and a couple of their kids are stand out players. With that said, I think for the first time through, we did some things nicely against them. We shut down their big in the first quarter and held them to 4 points. Quarter 2, things changed as we struggled stopping their big down low. We battled and adjusted as the game went on. I think round two with them will be much improved and we look forward to it. Paige Biette had 2 points, Maria Robbins had her best offensive production of the season with 5 points, and Julia Welch added a basket herself.
Lady Chiefs Lose Half-time Lead and Game in OT to Jets

Lose: 14 - 16
Another stellar game that came down to the wire for the Lady Chiefs 7th grader basketball team. What was a comfortable lead at half 12-1 quickly became a thrilling nail biter right down to the final second. Ava Bossick lead the way with 6 points and Addison McFadden was right behind her with 4 points of her own. Paige Biette and Julia Welch each added a basket in hopes of taking down the Jets. It was a well fought game, our defense was on point in the first half and we were firing on all cylinders. McFadden shut down their big early and Ava Russo kept their Point Guard in check. The second got away from us when we threw our full court trap in. Speed of game and nerves didn't work in our favor. The score was 14-14 going into over time and both teams had exceptional opportunities to score. THey nailed a field goal that put them up 16-14, and with just seconds left on the clock, we executed a play perfectly and just missed to tie the game back up. So proud of these kids and how they handled the pressure and the game. We look forward to round two of this rivarly.
Chiefs Beat Big Reds in Overtime Thriller

Win: 16 - 15
What a game as the Lady Chiefs who trailed the entire game, shut the Big Reds out in the 4th quarter to send the game to overtime.
Milan took the lead in the first quarter going up 6--4. Ava Bossick and Addison McFadden each had a basket for the Chiefs. We gave up two more baskets early in the second, McFadden adding a basket of her own, kept the Big Reds lead at 4 going into half time. The 3rd quarter our defense stepped up in some big ways. We started double teaming their guard and were able to shut her out completely. Had some nice steals and successfully ran an inbound play for a big basket underneath. Bossick connected on a layup from Ava Russo which cut the game to two. (Bossick added 4 points in the third quarter). As we headed into the 4th quarter, down two, the girls came together and really played the best I've seen them. The Big Reds had multiple breakaways that we stopped due to hustle. We had big rebounds and had a couple attempts early on to tie it, but missed some shots in the paint. Ava Russo though tied it up on her only basket of the night, which proved to be the biggest. Another key stop and the 4th quarter ended in a tie. To overtime we went.
Our first overtime showdown did not disappoint. Addison McFadden ramped up her defense and came up with two huge steals on Milan's first 2 possessions, both leading to break away layups in which she connected giving us a quick 4 point lead. It was all we needed to spark the energy as the team followed suit making big play after big play on the defensive side of the ball. With a 16-12 lead, Milan hit a three with 2 seconds left, but the clock ran out and Huron escaped 16-15 winners.
The improvements the girls have made from game one, a week ago, to today, is tremendous. They come to work every day eager to get better and every single one is improving in their own way.
Chiefs Take Second Loss of Season but Improve with Every Step

Lose: 14 - 22
Despite taking the second loss of the season, there is a lot of positivity leaving the court today. Specifically looking at the defensive side of the ball. We practiced hard last week working to do a couple little things differently and more effectively and the girls put their efforts into action. Coming out that first quarter we kept it close. Coming up with some big stops. Paige Biette and Addison McFadden both adding 2 points each early. The second quarter was a little bit of a struggle with some easy buckets, Ava Bossick added a basket along with a free throw, which was the only scoring of that quarter. The lead slipped away from us but our defense stepped up the second half only allowing 2 points the remainder of the game. Julia Welch had 2 points in the third and McFadden added another free throw. Bossick finished the 4th quarter being our only scorer adding 4 more points. We are getting to the basket better each game. Defensively we are understanding core concepts and improving upon them each day. I am super proud of them. They went toe to toe with a very good Riverview team and showed they can play with the best of them.
Huron looks to take on Milan at Milan, Wednesday January 27th.
Big First Win as the Lady Chiefs Take Down Jefferson

Win: 18 - 11
What a day for the 7th grade team as they rebound from a loss just 24 hours ago. The girls took a bit of a butt kicking yesterday so to see them come out today more focused and ready to play was exciting. They came out with better overall defense and more communication which lead to a lot of key stops. In turn, we took the turnovers and transitioned them into a lot of points. I was incredibly proud of the kids who are newer to the game as they are grasping new concepts each day. They are working hard and trying to do things right and it shows. Our leaders are also stepping up and rising to the occasion. Addison McFadden lead the way for the second game in a row, with 8 points. Maya Martindale and Ava Russo each chipped in for 4 points. Paige Biette added another basket. Great first win for these girls.
Chiefs Lose Season Opener to the Red Devils

Lose: 10 - 30
Although the game was a bit lopsided, there were good things to be found in the season opening loss to the Red Devils. Particularly in the work ethic and effort displayed by the young Lady Chief group. We have a good mix with experienced players and some new to the game, and the one thing that was prominent throughout was the hard work displayed by our crew. We learned a lot from each other, from our opponent, and I think it will show from game to game. Leading the way for us was Addison McFadden, having 6 of the 10 points. Julia Welch added a basket along with Ava Russo. We found a lot of opportunities that we just did not finish-which is promising. Very proud of this bunch as they kick off the season.
