Airport came to play! Their intensity and speed made it a difficult matchup for our Lady Chief squad. The game was a 6-0 game at the end of the first. I thought we worked well defensively with our matchups, but some fast breaks got us. Quarter two was a little harder, the fast break points added up quickly and we had trouble maintaining quality possessions. Not much scoring was had on our end but we had some decent looks and proud of how hard the kids worked. Sometimes losing is a great avenue to putting more work in, and that is what they will look to do as a tough week continues. 

Milan was a tough competitor last season and we knew again they would be a tough team to get past. The kids played their most complete game of the year thus far. Defensively we knew we had to put a lot of pressure on their guard and hold her to minimal points. And we did just that. Russo and Bossick did very well shutting down their guard play. From there our defense as a whole really took over. Stepping up and creating turn overs, loose balls we are all over, and we came up with some big stops when needed. The scoring was split up and every one contributed in some way. Maria Robbins had her best game to date, getting some big baskets under neath and finishing with 8 points. Bossick had a complete game on both sides of the ball and led the way with 10 points. Addison McFadden and Maya Martindale each contributed with 2 buckets each, and Ava Russo, Brooke Semone, and Julia Welch each added a scoring basket.  Despite some misques the kids came back in the second half and leaned on each other. Azzaria Zimmerman had a big steal in the 3rd quarter and Chloe James did some work inside, creating some mismatches and bringing physical play to life down low.  Chiefs have a big week ahead, taking on Airport, Riverview, and Flat Rock in the next three games of the season. 

It was a game of two halves and a great learning experience for the Lady Chiefs. Due to scheduling, game one was a 4pm game for our girls, so this was their first official game where they had to sit for an hour and watch 7th grade play, and come out ready. Coming out ready is not what we did. A bit sluggish, and off our game, the first half of the game was a bit frustrating. Although we had the lead 10-9 going into the second half, we knew our best ball had not been played, on either side of the court. McFadden led the way in the first half with 6 of our 10 points and Bossick stepped up with four. But our scoring wasn't very versatile this game, and we didn't share the ball much like we can.  Half two was a different story. We needed to be more physical on defense and push the ball up the court. Our kids came out and did exactly that. We pounded the ball a little harder inside and worked to get more shots, creating a lot more free throw opportunities. We shot 10-17 from the line, which was a great improvement from a year ago. Bossick was 5-6 from the line, and lead the half with 7 points. Rounding her total to 11 on the night and leading the team. Mcfadden hit a buck and was 2-2 from the line, bringing her to 10 points on the day. Russo went 3-4 from the line and Maria added a bucket. Many big steals and turnovers were had, and we held Jefferson to a scoreless second half. 

The Lady Chiefs with their home opener came out hoping for a big win on their home court. A season ago, Grosse Ile was our opening game and it was a very lopsided game with the Red Devils taking the W. A year later, and much improved, the Chiefs set their sights on a victory.  The first quarter the Red Devils jumped out to an early lead. We fell behind 12-9. The goal is always to keep it close by half and be within striking distance. The second quarter we cut their points in half only allowing 6 for the quarter, but only scoring 4 ourselves. Going into half time we found ourselves behind 13-18. Which we felt good about. We were starting to play better defense and the nerves were settling down. McFadden had 8 points to lead us in the first half, with Semone, Welch, and Bossick all adding a free throw. Conley hit a big bucket late in the second.  Third quarter started off hot. We were able to increase the pressure on defense and started using a double team on their Point Guard. Ava Russow did a great job with defense shutting her down. We held them to 8 points that quarter and we put up 12. McFadden again leading the way with 6 of the 12, Bossick with 4, and Russow with a big bucket. Coming into the fourth quarter we within one point and the kids ran away with the game. Mcfadden had 5, giving her a season high 19 on the day. Welch and Semone hit a huge bucket each and it helped rally the Chiefs past the Red Devils. The story of the game though was our shut down defense. Allowing only 1 point to be had by Grosee Ile in the fourth.  Very proud of how the kids stepped up. It was a team win!
