CARLSON HIGH SCHOOL: 1
People started to line either side of the duel making sure to stay far enough back from what was going to take place right in the corral before them. Shop owners put up closed signs, shutters were slammed shut, and the weather vain shivered as a tumble weed blew across the open field. The duel was planned to take place at 4:30 and just as agreed upon the Marauders of Carlson started to trickle in. Our Huron Chiefs were already warming up their trigger feet and when the last stagecoach rolled out of Arrowhead it happened. Maggie Warden was first to her trigger foot putting the Chiefs up 1-0. Kayla Sexton, Hannah Purcell, and Hannah Sample all made quick work of shutting down the Marauders attack and had them retreating. Deputy Gia Dean put the foes on there heals when she took a Madelyn Barbour pass and converted it into a 2-0 lead. The Huron fastfoots led by Sophomores Breeann Roupe, Mira Lazenby and Amelia Campbell, posseed up with freshmen Maddie Singer, Melissa Mentzer and Danica Lividini, calming the townsfolk as they worked to restore order. Maggie Warden dug her spurs in and scored possibly the fastest JV goal from a kick off in State History at 11 seconds and only added to the future myths of this night way back in 2021. Sophomores Madelyn Barbour and Kayla Sexton worked tirelessly nearly the entire 70 minutes as if the faces of the Marauders were on a wanted poster at the Hitch-in Post. After a well fought duel, with 8 seconds remaining, Warden fired another past the opposition in what soon after became known as “the shot heard around New Boston”. When the dust had settled and the sunlight broke through, the Marauders were sent packing as the Chiefs became victorious in the best of three meeting. This group of twelve is what “Legends” are made of and even until this day this story of the OK Arrowhead is still passed around these parts
