Girls Junior Varsity Soccer crowned Bedford Invitational Soccer Tournament Champions

Game Date
May 18, 2019
Score
: 8
BEDFORD SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 0

The girls made quick work of both Bedford and Lincoln Consolidated Yesterday May 18th to be crowned Champions of the three team Tournament.  Grace Traster walked away from the day as leading goal scorer with 6 goals, 5 of which came in the Lincoln game.  Alexa Yoder wasn’t far behind with 4 goals against Bedford.  Down 8 girls from the original roster, Huron handled both back to back games with only 2 substitutes and a total of 13 players and no designated goal keeper.  Lily Hickman stood in for the beginning parts of both games as she tried to make a case for herself to leave the field and jump to Varsity as the back up keeper and McKenna Darin, Ashley Kamensky, Mikayla Knott, and Megan Scott each took a turn as well.  In the 6-0 win against Bedford, Mikayla Knott had the goal of the game when she controlled the ball out of the air and neatly tucked the ball into the upper left hand corner which prompted all Huron fans to gasp simultaneously.  Madison Deluca worked the entire midfield alongside Molly Hall (the photographer), McKenna Darin, and fellow Jessica Clark-Rose.  Huron’s defense, Avery Schaeffer, Noelle Myshock (student police officer), Megan Scott, and Grace Traster, worked well together notching shutouts in both games.  Alexa Yoder scored the 1st four goals before she decided to hang back a bit and become more of a defensive player.  Chloe Evans was both an offensive mid and a forward who dominated with strength and speed.  Game 2 was more of the same when Traster pushed to offense and netted 5 of her 6 on the day.  Lily Hickman controlled the center mid and calmly beat a player before rocketing a low shot that scored which injured the keepers fingers.  Megan Scott attacked the right side and brought her bomb of a shot down to correct shooting height and laced a 20 yarder that ripped through the net and rolled down Douglas Road.  The big goal was scored when still relatively new to soccer, Ashley Kamensky, placed a shot into the lower corner that sent number 1 fan Melanie Skamiera into some kind of a weird Brazilian/Reggae/Salsa kind of celebration dance.

The Chiefs are back home Tuesday night at 4:30 against Trenton for senior night
