An early lead helped Huron Varsity Chiefs defeat Grosse Ile 7-2 on Thursday.  Huron Varsity Chiefs scored on a single by Emma Sic, a groundout by Brianna Scott, and a single by Sierra Diegel in the first inning.

After Grosse Ile scored one run in the top of the sixth, Huron Varsity Chiefs answered with one of their own.  Grosse Ile scored when Katie hit a solo homer.  Huron Varsity Chiefs then answered when Marissa Jackson doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Rylie Greggo led things off on the rubber for Huron Varsity Chiefs. The righty allowed one hit and one run over five innings, striking out six.

Katie was on the rubber for Grosse Ile. The hurler went six innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out ten.

Diegel led Huron Varsity Chiefs with two hits in three at bats.  Huron Varsity Chiefs tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Diegel led the way with three.

"A win is a win, so they say...and today that proved true. Ugly wins count just like the good ones and despite struggling in the box the girls did enough to grab a 7-2 win over Grosse Ile. Winds were gusting at a pretty high level making it difficult to call pitches like normal, as my voice was drowned out by the windy conditons. We went to the old school way and Scott did a great job behind the plate navigating Greggo through early. Greggo followed suit and threw to strike zone allowing our defense to stand their ground (literally from being blown over) and make some plays behind her. She ended the day with 9K's and didn't allow much in the way of an offensive attack from the Red Devils.  Musallam came in to start the 6th inning off and gave up a run, but I was super proud of her bounce back. She gave the homerun on her first pitch and then focused back and struck out the next three. That was a big moment for her, to come back with that assertiveness. It was a "you can't knock me down" mentality and I loved seeing that from her. All in all, you take wins like this and move on. Diegel led the way in the box going 2-3 with an RBI and Jackson, Sic, and Greggo added a hit of their own.  Proud of the kids for making it happen today. They plucked along, all of them."
