Your typical Huron/Flat Rock rivalry game was played this evening. A nail biter that took us right down to the last out. We knew Flat Rock was not going to come in and play weak, they are well coached every year, and find ways to over come adversity often. We are much the same, and as expected we battled it out in what turned out to be the most intense game yet this season. 

Dioszegi gave us the lead as she hit a two run shot, and that was followed up by some nice at bats. We took a 4-0 lead in the second and I think got a little too comfortable. Flat Rock came out and scored one run early, and then on two outs put themselves in good position as they kept putting the ball in play. We made a couple errors that allowed them extra outs that inning and they took full advantage. Defensively we are not owning the field yet. We are getting there, and each game provides more opportunity and growth, I'm confident well find it, but it hurt us tonight early. Coming out of the top half of the third we  had let our 4-0 run go and found ourselves losing 5-4. 

Brinkerhoff with two outs stepped up in the bottom of the third and hit a line shot over the fence to tie it back up. That was a huge at bat. They got back to back to outs quickly and you could feel momentum changing. That at bat really got us back on track. We kept them scoreless the next three innings, and managed three runs taking us into the top of the 7th with a three run lead, 8-5. Flat Rock had their 2,3,4 up and they didn't disappoint. Arnett and Blevins each hit a homerun to get with in one. Thankfully we made a couple nice key plays to seal the deal for a huge win. Incredibly proud of the kids. It wasn't pretty and much to work on moving forward-but they didn't ever get down. They picked each other up through some adversity of our own. We didn't let ourselves crumble and that speaks volumes of our leadership and grit.
