WAGAR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 37
The season ended on an exciting note, with the Chiefs pulling out a nail-biter in the final seconds of the game against the Wagar Jets, by a score of 38 to 37. It was a chippy game from the start and Wagar got off to a quick lead with their #24 putting up 12 points in the first quarter. Josh Hendrix stepped up late in the first with 6 pts to claw back to within 4 by the end of the first. The 2nd group, led by Gavin Moczydlowski and Cole Roberts, came out with much more intensity, outscoring the Jets 12 to 5 to grab a 3 pt halftime lead. Up by 2 with 10 seconds left in the game, a costly turnover on an inbound pass by the Chiefs led to #24 being fouled with 2 chances at the stripe to tie the game. He made the first to bring the score to within 1 pt, but missed the second to give the Chiefs the ball to end the game. A combined 52 free throws were taken by both teams with only 16 converting. The outcome could have been much different based on that stat. The Chiefs were led by Gavin Moczydlowski who put up 12 points, had 5 clutch steals and 2 assists. Rory Callahan contributed with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 3 big blocks to make a big impact on the game. Ethan Woolery was perfect at the free throw line, going 2 for 2 along with 3 rebounds, a steal and a block. Cole Roberts had another solid game coming off the bench with 4 clutch points, 4 big rebounds and a steal. Derek Anderson was flying all over the court today too, adding 2 points and 8 big rebounds. Josh Hendrix (7 pts) and Nik Crispin (2 pts) each added to the offensive attack. Overall a very tough, hard-fought win by the Chiefs to end their season with a 3-9 record, with the 3 wins coming in the last 5 games, which shows that the team has improved.
