SUMMIT ACADEMY SCHOOLS: 42
The Renton Chiefs suffered their 5th straight loss to start the season by falling to the Dragons of Summit Academy Monday night by a score of 42-21. The Dragons had a 7th grader, No. 2, playing up on the 8th grade team that Renton didn't have an answer for. He played the whole game and continuously beat his guy off the dribble, either scoring at will or dishing perfect passes to teammates for an easy bucket. Despite being the smallest player on the court, he accounted for the majority of Summit's offense.
The Chiefs were down players today, with Drew Slane, Nik Crispin and Rory Callahan all out for various reasons. The rest of the team had a hard time getting into their offense and running plays, choosing rather an undisciplined style, which ultimately did not account for many points. Renton also had a season high 15 turnovers.
A few highlights from the Chiefs came from Derek Anderson (2pts), who had a season and team high 15 rebounds along with 5 steals. Gavin Moczydlowski led the team in scoring with 12 points along with Luke Coll (3pts), and Joshua Hendrix (2pts) contributing to the scoring. Ethan Woolery also added 2pts and a few solid blocks in the 2nd and 4th quarters.
The Chiefs will have a solid week to, hopefully, get healthy and back up to full strength. Aside from the first game of the season against Grosse Isle, these have all felt like winnable games. Here's hoping that the hard work will pay off for the second half of the season.
