The Huron Chiefs opened the Huron League season with a 3-1 win against SMCC.  The teams fought back and forth for the first 40 minutes, leading to a 0-0 halftime stalemate.  The Chiefs took control in the second half and opened the scoring 12 minutes into the second half.  Ashley Christesen scored a long, hard angled shot off the far post and in for a 1-0 Chief lead.  She was assisted by Joanna Mentzer.  The Kestrels tied the game at 1-1 midway through the half.  The Chiefs rallied back as Bella Elliott found a wide open Mentzer who struck the pass into the far side of the net for a 2-1 Chief lead.  Elliott put the nail in the coffin as she converted a penalty kick past the Kestrel keeper for a 3-1 final.  Strong showings were made defensively by Lily Chollette, Olivia Manoa, Megan Scott, and Grace Traster.  Elliott, Marianna Gonzalez, and Cecily Hughes controlled the midfield, leading the attack.  The Chiefs are now 2-0 for the season and 1-0 in the Huron League.
