FLAT ROCK COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL: 63
In what seemed to be a good first half, the Lady Chiefs couldn't stop the Rams offensive attack. We battled, and we battled hard. The first half we were able to keep close. We let the first quarter get away from us quicker than we liked, but I thought we settled down and found some gaps in their defense. We also came up with some big stops to their offensive attack, which is probably the most well rounded in the region. We were down 10, losing 18-8 in the first. The unfortunate part is we missed probably 6 layups in the first quarter. All great looks that we could not capitalize on. That part was a bit frustrating. But the kids kept up the grind. We actually outscored them in the second quarter by 3. Which cut the lead 7 heading into the half.
HALF TIME SCORE: HURON 19. FLAT ROCK 26
The third quarter would prove to be the quarter that killed us. We always seem to have one quarter that we give up big points, and this was it. We lost one of our best defenders in the first half, which hurt, as our game plan changed a bit. We gave up 22 points on some big defensive miscues. Some mental breakdowns and lack of communication hurt us. Against a team with this many weapons, you have to mentally be involved in each series, and we were not. They did exactly what they are capable of doing. The end of third had the deficit now at 22 points. Huron 26. Flat Rock 48
The fourth quarter went about the same. Unfortunately the score does not reflect how hard these kids worked this game. At one point in the third quarter we were only down 6. But a couple back to back 3's were too much for us to make up for. Im proud of the girls though. We learned a lot through this game and will take a lot with us through the second half of the season. Even though we have 5 kids injured at the moment, one of which is season ending, we expect to continue to grow as a team and compete.
