A huge win over Milan Big Reds, who just played lights out as they went up against Airport just two nights prior. Coming into this game, we were a little battered and bruised, with some illnesses and injuries. Was not sure exactly the response we would get from the kids, but they showed up in style. Playing their BEST game of the 19-20 season thus far. 

The first quarter was a pretty tight battle. We gave up two 3's as we got caught leaving their two shooters open. But we really bounced back and had a good quarter of our own. Thomas and Callahan each had 4 points this quarter. Balasz and Petroski each chipped in for a basket. We ended the first with a 12-10 lead. 

Quarter two was equally as tight. But we held them to fewer baskets and more contested shots. Caroline Polites, played by far, the best defense of the night. We put her on their best player, knowing she has the ability to disrupt the drive without fouling, and she shut her down. I think up to this point, it was the defensive moment of the year; what she was able to do all night.  One of our biggest baskets on the day came from Emily Egler. She nailed a 3 with about 50 seconds left in the half, it took some of the wind out of them. She stepped up with confidence and knocked it down, it was a huge basket taking us into the half. Callahan, Balasz, each had a basket, and Pritt had 1 from the stripe.

We put together a very nice first half. Executing defensively everything we wanted to do. Offensively we were balanced but felt we could push the ball more and we really talked about driving through their press as they could not stop the ball handler very well. Thomas took full advantage of that and it played nicely into our hand. She was able to get to the rim and create a ton of scoring opportunities for herself and others. SHe scored 4 easy buckets inside and hit a huge three. Amelia Strochine came up huge with a timely basket. Milan was making a little run when Strochine grabbed a big offensive board, and put it back up for an easy basket, and you felt momentum shift a little bit in our favor there. That was big! Sometimes the little things become the big things you look back on, and that second chance point helped propel us to a huge third quarter. Thomas had 11 this quarter, Callahan 2, Balasz 4, and Pritt 2 

We had a 10 point lead going into the fourth and we never really looked back. We gave up a 3 and a couple easy baskets, but we contested a lot of their shots and made scoring a little more difficult for them. Any time they did score it seeemed we fought back with a basket of our own. Balasz and Pritt lead the fourth with 4 points each. Balasz has certainly stepped up as of late as her and Thomas work very well together pushing the ball and creating a quick tempo that is hard to keep up with. They created some big turnovers with their pressure that ended with transition layups. Balasz is starting to finish and become a scoring threat- she has made so many adjustments this season.  And I can't say enough about Izzy Pritt. She  has become a solid point guard for us and brought the control we needed to the floor. SHe knows when to push and when not to. She has a calmness in her along with her overall ball handling skill set. I think her increased minutes have been the stability this team has been looking for over the course of the past two seasons.
