The Huron Chiefs held off a late charge from Grosse ile to win Tuesday night 52-49.  Huron hadn't played or practiced since February 26 due to a Covid-19 quarantine and had only one practice on Monday to prepare for games against Grosse ile and Airport.  I told our players "win or lose I will not make excuses for our performance." Covid-19 has impacted teams and players in the NBA, College and other high school programs in the country. Players must do whatever they can to stay in shape and get some shots up to be ready for this week.  I talked to Coach Stasak, my varsity assistant, to decide what we needed to do with one practice with two games in 48 hours and we decided to do some extra shooting along with our scouting report and walk through.  It payed off.  We got off to a great start hitting three 3's in the first quarter from three different players and two more in the 2nd quarter to lead the Red Devils at the half 32-29. We talked at half about some defensive changes and better transition defense and held Grosse ile to only 7 points in the 3rd quarter to go up 43-36 heading to the 4th. Junior Mike Madrigal got the Red Devils to within 2 points by scoring 8 of his game high 15 points in the 4th quarter. But a last second 3 point shot was off the mark at the buzzer as the Chiefs held on to win.  Senior Chase Molnar lead the Chiefs with 20 points and Senior forward Frank Marvaso had 9 points and his first career 3 pointer in the win.  Huron faces league leader Airport tonight at Airport.
