Huron Varsity Chiefs Bats Ready Early In Win Against Airport Varsity Jets

An early lead helped Huron Varsity Chiefs defeat Airport Varsity Jets 7-5 on Wednesday. Huron Varsity Chiefs opened the scoring in the first inning when Addison Ramsby homered to center field, scoring two runs.

Airport Varsity Jets got on the board in the top of the first inning after Brooklyn Martin singled down the left field line, and Huron Varsity Chiefs committed an error, each scoring one run.

In the top of the second, Airport Varsity Jets broke up the tie when Olivia Tilley singled, scoring one run. Then an error followed to extend the lead to 5-2.

Huron Varsity Chiefs flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 7-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to right field by Corrine Gietzen that drove in three.

Rylie Greggo started in the circle for Huron Varsity Chiefs. The hurler gave up five hits and five runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking two. Alayna McDaniel opened the game for Airport Varsity Jets. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and five runs over one inning, striking out none and walking three.

Gietzen provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Huron Varsity Chiefs with three runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-3 on the day. Huron Varsity Chiefs turned one double play in the game.

Tilley led Airport Varsity Jets with two hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Brenna Baker went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.

Huron Varsity Chiefs will travel to Round Robin for their next game on Saturday.
