Huron Varsity Chiefs fell to St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels 9-8 on Monday on the final play of the game. St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels were down 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Hannah Williams singled, scoring two runs.

Huron Varsity Chiefs fell despite leading 4-0 in the second.

Huron Varsity Chiefs got on the board in the first inning after Corrine Gietzen grounded out, scoring one run.

A single by Maria Robbins, and a double by Rylie Greggo helped Huron Varsity Chiefs extend their early lead in the second.

Huron Varsity Chiefs added one run in the third. Cora Spurlock doubled down the right field line, making the score 5-1.

St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a single by Olivia Piepsney, and a home run to left field by Camryn Gee.

A single by Spurlock gave Huron Varsity Chiefs the lead, 6-5, in the top of the sixth.

Hayden Southerland singled to center field, which helped St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels tie the game at six in the bottom of the sixth.

A home run to left field by Addison Ramsby gave Huron Varsity Chiefs the lead, 8-6, in the top of the seventh.

St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels took the lead, 9-8, in the bottom of the seventh thanks to singles by Averie Gendron, and Williams.

Greggo began the game for Huron Varsity Chiefs. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and five runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Piepsney started the game for St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels. The right-handed pitcher gave up nine hits and eight runs (seven earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking three.

Spurlock, Makynze O’Dell, Ramsby, and Robbins each collected two hits for Huron Varsity Chiefs. Spurlock, Ramsby, and Robbins each drove in two runs for Huron Varsity Chiefs.

St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels tallied 14 hits in the game. Williams and Piepsney each collected three hits for St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels. Gee went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Abby Lechy collected two hits for St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels in four at bats. St. Mary Catholic Central Varsity Kestrels turned one double play in the game.
