TECUMSEH HIGH SCHOOL: 3
Two top teams but only one could advance. Huron dominated nearly the entire 100 minute performance with shots on goal, shots, and, shot attempts, but in the end Tecumseh advanced in the state tournament. Sal Marchionda took a bullet of a direct free kick that forced a giant rebound that Ryan Toth buried for a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Tecumseh took advantage of a turn over with 1 minute left in the 1st half to tie the game 1-1. The Chiefs continued to push but the second half ended 1-1. Late in the second overtime, Tecumseh forced a turn over that resulted in them taking the lead. Huron would not stop their relentless attack and Chad Sturgill scored with 1 minute remaining to force “the shoot out”. Some were made some were missed, the end result is Tecumseh advances and Huron gives them their full support. Captain Nick Pasut, Captain Chad Sturgill, Captain Vinny Gonzalez, Captain Ryan Toth, Senior Adam Brenner, and Senior Robby Oaks, thank you for your leadership! Thank you to Ricky Emelian and Remy Emelian for their unselfish defensive contribution that was a key to a solid defense. Thank you to juniors Sal Marchionda, Brendan Robbins, Mackennon Dolencic, Travis Russell, and Robby Spradlin, for their tireless work on the field today. Thank you to the guys that understood what today’s line-up was and supported their school, friends, and teammates with words of encouragement from the sidelines. Schools that compete at this level in this sport are not usually from “cornfields” but I present to you our 2018 “cornfield” team that finished with a 14-3-3 record. This is still only the beginning boys!
