In a crazy physical game were there was no such thing as normal, Huron found themselves in an unfamiliar situation.  Grosse Ile came out to run and gun and that was what they did taking an early lead against the Chiefs.   The Chiefs battled back and Alexa Yoder scored a penalty kick after she was raked down in the area to tie the game at 1-1.  Chloe Evans and Alivia Davis controlled the middle while Courtney Balazs and Kiara Rosales worked the front line.  Lily Hickman got to goal and used her left foot to try to power some offense while McKenna Darrin, Megan Scott, Mamoona Chaudhry, Avery Schaeffer, Jessica Clark-Rose, and Noelle Myshock pushed the pace on defense.  Molly Hall and Mikayla Knott aided in the possession game despite the other team kicking the ball away relentlessly.  Grace Traster and Shayla Mcmanaman anchored the defensive 1/3 and multiple times tried to spark the attack.  Ashley Kamensky fought to score and almost drew the game even with 15 minutes remaining.  All the way until the last seconds the mighty Chiefs battled to put the ball in the net including Madison Deluca who pursued a game of physicality of her own. Grosse Ile capitalized on a Chief injury that left Grace Traster on the ground near her own goal.  Grosse Ile converted and won the game 2-1, or did they?  

( not that the author of this piece is in denial of the final score but something has to be said of the more powerful team sticking to their soccer style and not straying much from it despite field conditions and a brutal battle that left the Huron Bus driver asking “was this a soccer game or an army battle”?)  The Chiefs  accept the loss and tip their hats to an honorable foe and welcome the competition anytime because luck never strikes twice.
