Huron Lady Chiefs had a great game this evening. The game started off a bit rough, we got behind by 8 early. We took some good shots with in the first 3 minutes of the game but nothing would fall. Grosse Ile took advantage and was able to come up with some big plays on their end. At the end of the first quarter we were trailing 11-7.The second quarter we changed some things up defensively and the intensity and ball pressure really came together. Ava had 7 points in the 2nd quarter which came off a couple transitioned baskets from steals by Lexi Thomas. The second quarter we outscored the Devils 15-14 and were trailing by 2 at the half. We came out of the half looking to keep fresh legs moving and keeping the defensive pressure full court, and the kids executed that idea flawlessly. They came together and worked as a true team on the defensive side of the ball. Lexi Thomas set the tone and everyone followed. She took control of the tempo both defensively and offensively. Ava Dimilia, who finished with 24 points on the night took over the game with her offensive attack. It was really fun to watch. Courtney Balasz came in and added some big quality minutes. A couple key defensive stops followed by a huge and one! It was a game changing moment. Faith Callahan added a presence down low that allowed pressure to come off Dimilia. She added 4 points to the mix but came up with some big rebounds. She also had a big defensive stop by taking an uncalled charge that resulted in a turnover and transitioned basket on the other end to take the lead. Marissa Smith and Izzy Pritt added 6 points to the mix and gave the offense some huge stability. Polites, Belair,and Campbell balanced us out with their defensive play as well. Campbell had a big 3 in the first half to cut the lead to 6, which gave us some breathing room. It was a huge team win tonight. Really nice to see the kids come together like they did this evening and fight and grind this win out.
